Not worth the money
I almost sent this back. I don’t wish to seem harsh but for £58 I simply expect much better quality.Another reviewer here describes this light as “Really sturdy and well made” and that was one reason why I bought it. However, that could not be further from the case. ‘Sturdy’ it most definitely is not. And cheap and nasty is the way I would describe the construction – in fact it almost looks homemade. This would all be OK if it was about half the price. However, I paid £58 for this (incredibly I’ve even seen it listed elsewhere at a higher price, which would be even more annoying). Here are the three worst things about this lamp:• Very thin and cheap materials• Lose and floppy joints (horrible in the hand when making any adjustment)• Poorly plated metal partsIt looks like the silver shiny parts are all metal. That’s not the case. In fact, the most important structural component is the bracket to which the legs are attached. This is made of a thin plastic. The rest of the lamp is either very thin metal or wood. The product claims to be double insulated however given that the case around the light and through which the wire passes is metal, I would prefer to see an earth. So why did I not send this piece of overpriced tat back? Well, firstly most of the competition (incidentally it appears that a lot of these cinema / maritime spot lights are made by the same company in India) around this price looks similarly tatty, and secondly, with a bit of effort I was able to make some badly needed improvements. The main thing was to add spacers to remove the appalling slack from the joints and spring washers everywhere, especially on the pivots on the lamp housing, to tighten everything up and allow the lamp to move more smoothly and stay where you aim it. The only difficulty I had in doing this is that the manufacture has glued several of the nuts on, making their undoing a challenge. So what I have now is better but not great. I advise looking elsewhere and beware of all the similarly cheaply made but highly priced alternatives.
