You will see a small black sponge on the inside of the container top which you should remove if you are using it for mineral makeup. Fill the barrel with powder then pump the base, with the bristles downward, to load them with minerals. Some people like the sponge inside because it prevents too much powder being released at one time. After the sponge fills up it dispenses the powder more evenly but still slowly. However most people prefer to use it without the sponge at all. You must turn the brush downward and pump minerals into the bristles, apply lightly at first and eventually you will know just how many times to pump to get the amount you want.To avoid skin outbreaks and contamination your makeup brush head should be cleaned regularly with either a specific brush cleaner solution or baby shampoo.
