Deadly Obsession: A sexy, gripping suspense novel

Twists and turns a plenty with some bad and beautiful characters
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I see TV shows all the time where within 15 minutes you've worked out whodunnit and how, but this kept me guessing. Even down to the last I was split between two perpetrators until the final "face off". I don't align myself with the mystery genre and I'm sure those that do will have some amonst their number who suss it out quickly but I didn't... My mind changed throughout which I'm pleased about as predictable books (and TV shows) are pretty boring. The characters, as in all Nigel's books are relatable, whether it's someone you know, yourself or a character personality type we are familiar with. The language is certainly "earthy"- a certificate 18 for sure and not at all for the easily offended! No taboo is off limits in a Nigel May! I laughed out loud several times and after a couple of days of reading when I can, I finished it because I wanted to see what is next. This is as close to " couldn't put it down" as I can get nowadays. Nigel's writes about glitz and glamour in a way that those of us who don't every famous name out there can still understand the world that his characters frequent and I think that's a real skill, I'm sure that those who do know those famous names will get a kick from seeing them. I think that most adults with a reasonably open mind who enjoy a little "romance" in their fiction will enjoy it, this is about people who are beautiful, bad or both.I got a kick from the obligatory mention of craft (two this time... What a name for a nightclub LMAO) as that's my area of interest. It's a good story that has a nice pace. I like how every other chapter flashes back, giving depth to the story and in my mind some of it was part of the lead female character coming to terms with what was going on around her, other flashbacks were the memories of other characters. Like they were playing back incidents to help them plot their next move. It wasn't hard to know where in time you were as chapters are short and one individuals "thoughts" were not crossed with another's. Usually, I don't like short chapters but here it works and works really well.I have not divulged any of the characters or story as IMO the description does that. I'd just like you to read, not think too hard, and enjoy a world that may be very, very different from your own. I like they way Nigel writes. He's very descriptive (not just during the parts with sexual activity, like many books of a similar ilk) so you get a picture of the place or the people he describes in your mind right away. In every book he has written I've read at least one simile that makes me want to applaud with its sharp humour. Plenty of witty one liners, sharp put downs and some insults so catty they make you wince. So glad no one was around to see my facial expressions while I was reading! This book fits in to quite a few genres- crime, mystery, "chick lit", romance. I don't read enough of any of these to say where it fits but in truth I'm glad. Why pigeonhole what is an entertaining book? My suggestion to book a comfortable spot on the sofa, put the partner/ kids/ dog/ TV on silent and enjoy the escape!Well done Nigel, I'm looking forward to your next book :-)

So badly written, it’s painful.
Really unlike me not to finish a book but this one, two chapters in, has beaten me. The writing is atrocious, chock-full of over the top analogies, totally unbelievable conversations and stereotypes. I tried but after my 50th ‘oh, my god - that’s so bad!, I decided that life is too short.

Shocked !
Well thought my review had gone through but seems not so I'll try again .This book surprised me great deal after reading the previous books by Nigel. I would put this book up there with the big boys and girls of mystery and suspense. I so did not see the ending coming it left me totally surprised. So well done Nigel you had me fooled. Now I look forward to the next....

Another great read
Its review time, and another great read it has been, if you haven't read any of Nigel's books, what are you waiting for ? 😄,His style is gripping, twisting and page turning, and as i don't try to guess the ending, prefer to build up the suspense and wonder at who has done the dirty deed, page by page.In this latest novel, I didn't take to a character, something didn't sit well within me, which is unusual, but took to a different character instantly. There is a lot of detail in Nigel's writing, plenty of background for you to envisage, to get the whole scene in your mind. The chapters are short, which is is a great help if you don't have time on your side, to enable you to keep picking it up again on your next tea break. I enjoy reading Nigel's books, give them a go, and as a bloke , I wasn't disappointed. Roll on the next book.Jona

Slow start but worth persevering
I had started to read this some time ago on my kindle but abandoned it. I just found the smug, simpering perfect couple with the perfect life too irritating. However, I ran out of books on holiday so went back to it and I must say I am glad I did. Very readable, if a little far fetched, and I actually got to like the main character and admired her strength. I don't want to give too much away but there are a lot of bad people, and part of the enjoyment was discovering who can and cannot be trusted. Definitely worth a read.

Murded mystery with lots of glitz ans glam!
Deadly Obsession is a murder mystery with a lot of glitz and glamour! By far this book had more characters than most and it takes a few chapters to get used to Nigel May's writing style. I found the protagonist Amy very uninspiring, weak and gullible. I can't imagine her story would sit very well with any woman with half a brain. At times her nature just falls into the stupid category. However I was gripped and wanted to know exactly what happened to her husband and what led to her being on this wild goose chase.Nigel builds up the story to meet a very big scene towards the end but in parts I felt there were too many irrelevant characters who did not add to the story but were being explored. I didn't get much sense of Manchester as a city but I appreciated the fact it was set outside of London. The ending did live up to what I was expecting and I found that to be a positive! Was it a believable story? No. Did it keep me entertained? In most parts. My real reservations are with how the women were portrayed as weak, sex obsessed and needing male attention to justify their existence whilst the men were presented as powerful, entitled and possessive. I think those are dangerous ideals to project...Over all I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, erotica and a psychotic murder mystery. The biggest surprise to me in the novel was how clueless Amy is!

Brilliant - he's done it AGAIN!!
Brilliant - he's done it AGAIN!! I love these books, they're brilliant stories and easy to read, you just carry on and on and can't put them down. This just whisks you along and you don't want it to end. So Mr. May, you'd better sharpen your quill and get on with the next one - we're waiting...

It’s okay
It as ok. Didn’t love the main character. Too repetitive in many areas just to fill pages in my opinion. I did manage to finish reading.
