Buy the 1D
I'm going to keep this review short and sweet. These are fantastic for the price. The pieces of wood will have imperfections, and because of this I'd recommend buying the 1D diffuser. Look at the pictures in other reviews and you'l see what I mean, the 1D has a simpler construction that lends itself more to this budget quality level. I'm not knocking a star off for the imperfection in the wood, because I'm surprised they exist at all at this price point, and it is well worth the small compromise for the money saved. They are cheap enough you can put them in an array to achieve 2d diffusion anyways. I started with 2, but I will buy 4 more to make a 2x3 diffuser on the back wall of my mixing space at some point. Oh, also you can hang also these with large command strips (I used 6 instead of 4 though, adding 2 in the middle)*Edit*It works better and cheaper to buy XL command strips and use 4

Ok but 2KHz and above, NOT 500Hz!
It's good but the deepest well is 55mm while the shallowest one is 11mm. Since there is no well of 0 depth (flat surface) unless you mount it flush with a board or consider the tiny edges as a bit of flat surfaces, this makes the difference between shallowest and deepest 44mm.So if you do the math, the phase shifts that happen from that end up only affecting frequencies above 2KHz which kind of make this a false advertising...Now imagine if they simply added just 3 inches of depth, suddenly it would drop just under 1KHz, which would be much more reasonable / useful, and it would probably make the product just 30% more expensive or something. My take: go big or go home. Just buy or build something 6 inches deep with a well of 0, that would truly make it a 500Hz+ diffuser.

Outstanding product for the price
For over two decades now I have been doing dedicated Home theater and music room acoustical consultation with many installers in my local area. For years I have used RPG products for acoustical control which are quite expensive. I was tasked with finding acoustical products that are more value oriented for their clients with lower budgets without giving up performance and build quality. I ran across BXI Sound Diffusor, and decided I would give it a try.I would not call this a diffusion panel, but a scattering panel. Diffusion requires wells that have different depths and are much deeper as well. As a scattering device, they are excellent at making a hard localized reflection into many tiny reflections that are less perceptively noticeable to the ear.For those of you DIYers looking to build your home theater on a budget, this a must-have product to fine-tune the acoustical performance of your room. Rather than using absorption panels for my first reflection points, I used these instead. I had a bad lateral wall slap echo, and these panels eliminated it without removing energy from the room. The scattering this product offers allows for a more natural-sounding room that is not overly dead.I highly recommend this product and BXI's great customer service as well.

Surprisingly good!
I was genuinely surprised how good these are. Very well made and they look great! They were about $60 each when I purchased them with is wild to be honest. Highly recommend.

Good but not great.
I placed two panels about 3ft high behind my listening chair and it improved the sound in a way that subtle sound cues that wasn’t apparent before became more pronounced. Echoes and reverb on the recording became more fleshed out.

These work well for the cost
I bought a number of these to combine on a feature wall. I primed them and then painted before mounting them on the wall. They diffuse the sound well. The build quality is good, very good for the price, there were some small deviations in the different Pannels that can impact them fitting flush with each other when combined, but nothing too bad.
