Another well researched historic YA Novel
This is the third Jennifer Neilson book I have read and I intend to read all of hers. As a military historian I am most impressed with the attention to historic detail as the backdrop to the stories. This book is about a group of adolescants from widely different cultures, all caught up in the same nightmare of WW1 and how their lives become linked. Jennifer's books have an easy flow to the writing, which makes it easy to get into and the stories are fast moving. I find it hard to find fault with this book, if it is read as it was intended. Recommended for al lages 12 and up.

Eye Opening
This is my first book by Jennifer. As an adult, I think more adults would benefit from this. It teaches you at its core to see things from other peoples perspectives. I look forward to reading more.

Great Author - Well Written WW1 Story
Jennifer Nielsen has a clever way of weaving together the different stories for each character that end up connecting to each other. The beauty of it is that she takes on the perspectives of several characters experiencing WW1 in very different ways, and comes up with something that allows young readers to realize that underneath, even in war, people are really not so different after all.Love that it was about WW1 because more books tend to focus on WW2We read this with several 4th and 5th graders. It has some mature and descriptive content about the realities of war, so may not be suited for kids any younger than that.
