Nifty contraption.
Happened across this little helper on a social media feed. Peaked my interest and being a long time fun fisherman I figured hey life is always better with gadgets involved. So I had to have one to see if this thing did make knot tying easier for me.Diving into some more info on this I was amazed that it could also be used as a safe way to travel with your rig tied on. How convenient I thought. So had to have one.Honest thoughts, smaller than I thought it would be. Seems to be decently made. Quite the invention with the way hooks fit. Closes with minimal effort and also does a decent job at snipping extra line with the small cutter on the back. I read the instructions for once and then did the hands on test. Found that some hooks fit better than others. Never really got a seriously tight hold on the hooks. It was easier to handle when I tied knots. It took some getting used to with techniques since hook it held inside this thing. Gave me a bit more control. One major issue and why I gave it 4 stars. That is the hinge that attaches the 2 halves. It’s plastic. Seems to be a decent quality plastic but being a machinist by trade I know of you bend something back and forth enough it will always break. After opening it 12 or more times I see the plastic hinge starting to change color. So not sure how long it will last. That said, the way it can attach to your pole while traveling is a bonus. Overall it’s a nice little addition to the tackle box. It fits anywhere and will always come in handy. I will continue to use it until it breaks. If I get 20 or 100 knots out of it I will be happy. Great little invention that I can appreciate owning.

Interesting fishing tool that will work for some hooks but not others
This Hook-Eze knot tying fishing tool is an interesting product that is designed to help protect your hands from fishing hooks when securing a line knot. I tried it out using a variety of hook sizes and designs and determined that although it will supposedly work on hook sizes 4/0 and smaller, it totally depends on the thickness and shape of the hook. It definetly will not work on wide gap hooks such as EWG or wacky rig hooks since the area where the hook is placed into is not wide enough. There are two large and small exit holes (see pic) that the hook fits into that I feel is a design flaw on this device since the shank of the hook most of the time is not going to perfectly match the size of one of the those openings which means the hook will move around in the hole and not stay tight. I found this to be a real problem when trying to secure large hooks that have a thin shank on them and are almost too loose in the device to even use it. The swivel on this product is designed to help in tying a cinch knot on the hook since it can be rotated. The hinge on this product is thin plastic so it will wear out over time depending on how much it is used which I see as another design flaw. The metal loop on the end can be used to put your finger through for securing a hold on this product while pulling a knot tight and also while spinning the line to create a cinch knot. This product can also be used to secure a hook to a fishing rod for safe transport. There is a line cutter on the back of the device although I don't think it is sharp enough to make clean cuts and I would use line nippers instead. There are short videos on the product's website that show how to use it. Overall, this Hook-Eze device will ok for some anglers and not so good for others depending on what hooks they are using.
