The only Neville Shute novel I've been missing! Now got the lot. A wonderful story teller even though some of the descriptions are inappropriate in today's society! Some famous books of their day.

I rather liked this. An illustration of life shortly after the Great War and how people were trying to build a better future with the new technology i.e. Aircraft and flying as a business. We forget how hard life was. But it is a nice story with a happy ending. Worth reading.

This was one of his early books and I don't think it was published until much later. I thought he hadn't honed his style when this was written and I found the plot and characters hard to follow.

Neville Shute's novels captivated me as a schoolboy and I now have a complete set.I can re-read them and never get bored.And many of them offer far sighted views of what our world is today, yet these observations were penned 50+ years ago.

Liked most of it but a bit too much padding out in places, some of it repeated rather a lot, not so good as some of his books, but still an enjoyable read.

I am a big fan of Nevil Shute but this book is dreary. I've read half and will probably not bother to read anymore.

I really enjoyed re-reading this book, first read in my teens, some 50 years ago !

Enjoyable but not in the same class as his previously published books
