The Essential Theatre

I was scared renting a book off amazon because the condition was good and with my previous experience with those types of quality they came with no binding and then i would have to pay for the book and end up keeping it. The book came in a really good condition and there were no doodles or anything inside. The book been interesting so far for the theatre class for college. The material is interesting to understand and I love the content. Cengage books are very straightforward and interesting and I loved the theatre material they provide. I am not a theatre major but the content was not hard to understand and the reading was rather pleasant than gruesomely terribly.

Good read and affordable but the book came cut on the back. Like they got a shipment of them in and when they sliced the box open, they cut through part of the book.

A history of theatre is provided in the first half of the book. It is a wonderful overview -- from the Greeks and Romans to modern day. Sadly, once it reaches modern times, its focus narrows and we get several chapters on American theatre. The neglect of Britain -- a world leader in the quality of its actors, its playwrights and its productions is unforgiveable. Russia and France are barely mentioned. The second half of the book is a sort of "what is theatre" tutorial, presenting each of the components of a play and how each one contributes to the whole. wonderful photos. Nice quality paper. A note about the price: I am getting very very tired of Amazon sending prices up and down, randomly. The price today is $15 less than what I paid, a week ago. Same thing happened with another item: a $44 purchase was available for $32 a week later. Buyer beware !
