Ellen shines in this briliant, witty, poignant look at life today, and how much has changed!
Ellen is the "Dalai Lama" of our era's sociological crisis, understanding the fundamental issue that has critically impacted human nature as a whole, and on an individual level. "Here and Now" is a masterful presentation that brings to our attention the heart of American life today. It's amazing how eloquently she nail's the vague, deeply unsettling core adversity that represents the hallmark of American citizens lives today, while making us laugh hysterically at our weakness.I've always admired Ellen, seeing in her a wise, compassionate, deep soul that loves and understands people. She has courageously sacrificed herself to offer humanity a kind service with the gift of her humor, even as she vulnerably exposed her true self publicly, knowing she would face the heavy burden of society's judgement. In "Here and Now", Ellen has never been more beautiful, witty, humble and radiant, a woman who has attained her full potential with grace, and this all makes the subject matter of her show more touching on a personal level. This is a must-see for all, especially for baby-boomers and early Gen-Xer's, who will so easily relate and laugh at ourselves and our lives, poignantly bringing us back in touch with life before the chaos, when things were so much simpler, and joy could be experienced in the little things that mattered.Bravo, Ellen! What a beautiful way to share your vision and help us all more aware that we can make life what we want it to be more like - if we choose. I could not help but enjoy the show even more so, for "seeing" that lovable little blue fish called Dori in my mind - they both share so much in common.

Ellen, a simple woman with a hilarious view of life as it is today
Ellen is brilliant. She takes the most ordinary life events and makes us see the insanity of our way of life. It's great to look back to her stand up years and see exactly why she has come so far. I love the way she forged ahead , unashamed to be gay, and just when we thought she had gone too far, lost her career due to coming out on her sit come, she broke through those long established barriers, and now has one of the most loved talk shows on TV. She is simple and honest...and how wonderful that those basic American values have allowed her to become not only a hero for the gay community but a hero for us all. Because, in the end of all the pressure to be just like everyone else, she shows us that we do share so much in common, and we do enjoy the same type of humor, and we are all just doing the best we can to hang in there as the world becomes more and more complex. A simple woman with a great sense of humor, Ellen is one of a kind and at the same time a mirror for all of us.

Refreshingly different stand up
She has a pleasant, low key style as opposed to the more bombastic, other-the-top comics like Lewis Black. So not so side-splittingly funny and her selected vocabulary sounds less like an army barracks. I enjoyed her routine, but if your looking to laugh until tears run down your cheeks, she won't get it done for you.

Ellen DeGeneres: Enjoy the ride and laugh.
Ellen's a master of comic timing, delivery, pacing, and the ability to draw us in, and help us laugh atthe foibles of our humanity. She remarkably doesn't lose the thread of whatever she's drawing our attentiontowards, and the fun is in the journey along the way - so that ultimately, we don't really care where we wind up.In this performance, she does a great job of beginning and ending with a topic we can all relate to - procrastination.By the way, she's a great example of how Funny doesn't have to involve profanity or mean spiritedness. I've beena fan of Ellen's since - well, forever, when she was just starting out. This performance is an excellent way of spendingan hour, laughing and appreciating to our common humanity. What's better than that?

A great act and a great show.
I like Ellen and this is a good example of her standup. I have to say that watching it after another comedy show, left me comparing. I feel that is not fair and shouldn't be done. However i did and it wasn't favorable. She didn't have the delivery I would expect from someone so outspoken.

Great for some laughs
I laughed so hard the first time I watched "Ellen DeGeneres - Here and Now," I actually had tears rolling down my face (a rarity for me). Even though I've watched it several times now, it still makes me laugh. I can relate to so many things: procrastinating (with unfinished jobs all over the house); forgetting what I was going to say; waving at the wrong person; tripping then pretending to jog; singing the wrong words to songs; etc. On top of that, Ellen's humor is quite "clean" compared to most routines heard these days. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone looking for some good, clean laughs.

Continues to entertain
I've watched this show at least 5 times & it still makes me laugh. Her comedy is clean, mostly "family friendly" yet truly points out some of the irony and hilarity in situations we encounter in our daily lives. Such a refreshing change from some other comediennes who dive straight into crass & vulgar aiming for shock value laughter. (and no I'm not a prude, there are some I find very funny that are more towards that extreme, but it takes true talent to be consistently clean yet funny and Ellen has mastered the art :-) )
