Proactive Peace of Mind: My Strategy To Nurture Calmer, More Settled Pets Since 2017
๐ฟ๐ถโฏ๏ธ If you are looking for a natural dog calming supplement to help with puppy socialisation, separation anxiety, fireworks fear, or travel stress, these herbal tablets are an effective, non-drowsy solution for long-term nervous system support. As a pet owner, there is a specific kind of helplessness you feel when your dog pants and paces frantically during times of stress. I have used the Dorwest Herbs Scullcap & Valerian Calming Tablets since 2017, and they are a vital part of my toolkit for both proactive training and situational support for anxious dogs. This review reflects my personal experiences only and should not be taken as medical advice. Always consult with a healthcare provider or veterinarian before starting any new dog supplement regimen or making changes to your pet's healthcare. Proactive Puppy Strategy & Long-Term Calm โฏ๏ธ Interestingly, my dogs do not show noise phobia during storms or fireworks today. I attribute this largely to a proactive strategy: I began using these herbal calming tablets when they were puppies. My aim was to support their natural calm during both expected and unexpected stressors, hoping to prevent deep-seated anxieties from ever developing. Seeing them now - unfazed by loud noises - I think this "early intervention" approach truly paid off. ๐ถโค๏ธ ๐ฏ Targeted Support for Transitions & Travel I do not use these routinely with my adult dogs. Instead, I keep them in my toolkit for periodic support during high-pressure transitions, such as having visitors to stay or welcoming a new family member. They are also a lifesaver during holidays away; in unfamiliar environments where they might typically become clingy or pace instead of sleeping, this non-drowsy formula helps them relax. โบ๏ธ Strategic Planning: Not a "Quick Fix" It is vital for pet owners to understand that these tablets are not a "rescue remedy" for immediate relief. For anticipated stressful events in my adult dogs, I administer them in advance to allow the natural ingredients to build up in their system. If your dogโs fear is intense, it is very important to consult a professional for a comprehensive anxiety relief plan. ๐กPractical Observations & Administration Pro-Tips The "subtle shift" I observe is very encouraging: I see improved focus and concentration in puppies, less hyper-vigilance at the window and door during periods of stress, and an improved ability to settle at night with deeper, less disturbed sleep. ๐ค โข Pro-Tip: The tablets are small and sugar-coated, but if your dogs find the herbal scent pungent, try giving them with a tasty treat. Mine will happily take them in a dab of cream cheese, peanut butter, pate, or wrapped in cooked meat. A Multi-Modal Strategy for Calm We find the best results come from a multi-layered approach. These tablets are part of a wider toolkit (most of the items I use are available on Amazon UK): โข Pressure Wraps: The Thundershirt (ASIN: B0029PY7SK) for a "calming hug." ๐งฉ Mental Enrichment: Snuffle Mats for endorphin-releasing foraging. ๐ถ Audio Therapy: Through A Dog's Ear (ASIN: B003C1F1PI) and The Mozart Effect: Music for Babies Vol. 1 (ASIN: B00000DA1O). ๐งธComfort: The Snuggle Puppy (ASIN: B000C9YADU) for security. โ The Verdict Dorwest Herbs has crafted a well-rounded formula that respects an animal's natural physiology. With 500 tablets, this bottle offers exceptional value for multi-pet households. My small dog gets 2 tablets daily while my toy breed gets 1 tablet daily for targeted supported, when needed. I highly recommend this product to any pet guardians willing to put in the ground work to nurture a calmer, more settled pet.

These work
These were recommended to calm a dog I'd got from a shelter. I was dubious but they do actually work. They don't knock your dog out like some of the prescription meds do, but they are calming.

Definitely has some effect on my anxious dog
I bought these for my dog after seeing them recommended on many training websites. I was unsure as my Staffy/Presa Canario cross was anxious and fearful after a bad start before we got him and had little socialisation. Scared of everything. We had made some progress with training but felt sorry for him as he was clearly still fearful after 5 months with us. About a week after giving him two in the morning and two at night he made eye contact with me for the first time. He began to play at chasing without becoming skittish and 'leave' when we asked him to, and we were able to teach him to fetch a ball as he wasn't as distracted. He's improved a bit walking on the lead but more work to do there, much better now he is calmer It's not a perfect solution and he will need more training but he is less anxious and more responsive. It's early days but something has happened and I'll be continuing use for as long as it takes for this little boy to get used to life outside the shed he was kept in for the first five months of his life before he came to us.

Not for us
Was advised vallerian was a great calmer for anxious etc dogs, put Henry on the advised dose and slowly increase the dose to the max as there wasn't any change, but thought we should persevere, after about 4 weeks there still wasn't any change, so we finished the bottle but didn't buy any more. I hope they work for others, I'll try something else.

Works well
We have been using this for a couple of years now for my anxious spaniel. Without it he is a different dog and way too anxious, this helps take the edge off so we are able to do things with him . He is still energetic and crazy but less worried about things and people. If we know he's going to go somewhere that will cause him anxiety (e.g. vets) we can just double the dose and it really helps.

It works
My mini pinscher was a nervous wreck around bonfire night. Diffusers didn't help, but these did. I start them a couple of weeks before bonfire night and he is calmer and then again before New Year. I have used them on a small terrier cross who suffered from nervous aggression and he improved immensely. I have also since used them on a cat I rehomed who was aggressive in his original home and not used to dogs. I kept him in a large dog crate and gave him Dorwest scullcap and valarian for 2 weeks before I let him out and he gradually calmed down and got used to my dogs. After 4 weeks I gradually tapered of the dose of tablets and he is a fine and loving cat to me and the dogs. He even sleeps with my red and white chihuahua now.
