This wasn't a need, it was a want. :-) I've always loved hourglasses, so grabbed this one when it showed up in my recommendations. It has a great weight to it, it's solidly constructed, and the sand falls evenly, depending on the surface you have it on. It does squeak a bit when you spin it, but that's a non-issue to me. I'm not sure what the "M" stands for, but I've decided it stands for Mom. :-) The only con, and the reason I'm dropping one star, is it's not three minutes, it's three and a half minutes. This isn't a big deal to me, but it needs to be timed accordingly to what they're saying it is - that's important when buying these sorts of things. So they either need to update the description or remove a bit of the sand so it falls in three minutes.

This is actually pretty elegant, and I love it as a showpiece on my desk
