The product emphasizes savory and umami. It is *very* sweet. I don’t mind a light sweet taste but these might as well have been rolled in sugar. If you have a strong sweet tooth and aren’t worried about your sugar intake they will be fine. If you are looking for true savory and sea protein that isn’t afraid to taste like actual grilled smoked squid? Keep looking. I can’t return it so I soaked it in water for an hour to leach out the sugar and mixed it with spicy umami sauce. I wouldn’t let kids eat this even as a snack. Not the best way to wean kids away from sugar.

I’ve had plenty of calamari snacks in Korea, but this was just horrible, like chewing on dried rubber bands. I tossed it in the trash, disappointed. Later, throwing other stuff away I thought there must be some reason for this product to exist, right? So I fetched it out (still in the re-sealable package) and decided there must obviously be a better use for this product. So I grabbed a handful and put it in simmering water for about an hour. Okay, now we have a seafood broth and the squid is actually chewable… what if I add salt? Perfect. Removing the squid, bring the stock to boiling. Now let’s add ramen noodles, flavor packet and add the squid and kimchi at the end… BEST ramen I’ve ever had, bar none. I’m sure there are better ways to render this, but it was awesome
