Smart Mailbox Alarm, Requires SBS50 Base Station, Wireless Long Range Mailbox Alert, Mailbox Sensor for Delivered Mail, SMA51

We bought this mailbox alarm at the same time we got water leak detectors from X-Sense. We bought the set of leak detectors without the base station and use the station included with the mailbox alarm for everything. It all works well together. We particularly like the fact that the mailbox alarm saves us making unnecessary trips out of the mailbox just to discover the mail has not yet been delivered. It also reduces the chance of mail theft. When the letter carrier opens the mailbox, we get a chime to notify us, so we can pick it up right away. Our mailbox is not too far away, but for anyone who has a long driveway or who lives in an apartment building, this would be a must have. Just remember to press the reset button on the base station after you’ve picked up the mail. Set up was easy. The only potential issue I could see is if your Wi-Fi is not strong enough to reach your mailbox, since it all works over your Wi-Fi system.

Installation was fairly simple following the app and after careful reading of the instructions and watching some YouTube videos. I had to place the mailbox sensor about halfway down the mailbox door due to some metal welded on the top of the inner side, but it functions well nonetheless. After a while, I had to move the base station closer to the front door because I kept putting other things too close to it which interfered with the signal. I am very pleased to know when mail, especially small packages, are delivered to my mailbox. I wish i could get the flashing red X to time out, but this device is the easiest, least complicated way I have found to know when my mail is delivered. Thank you X-Sense.

Worked for seven months, then died.

Great range from the base station. My mailbox is over 500 feet away and the signal has to deal with my brick house. (It probably goes through a window but still...). My Wi-Fi doesn't reach the mailbox but the base station connects to the mailbox alarm with no problem. The unit consists of two parts. There's the sensor itself which detects light and houses a battery, and that clips on to a mounting bracket that you put on the inside of the door of your standard curb line mailbox. The mounting bracket is attached to the door with a peel and stick adhesive. Unfortunately that adhesive will not hold up to very hot temperatures particularly if your mailbox is in the sun. The temperature went above 90 and I started getting false alarms because the detector was sliding around and detecting subtle changes in light. This isn't hard to fix; you just need and adhesive that can withstand high temperatures. I reattached the mounting bracket with silicone sealant design for fireplace components. Definitely overkill but it was a cheap fix and it got the job done. I'm not sure if that sealant is designed to stand up to winter temperatures but I guess I'll find out in a few months. The bottom line is that you're going to have to think about how you attach the mounting bracket in your climate. The X-Sense app is good in the sense that it's easy to understand and it works. A lot of apps for these types of gizmos are terrible but overall I'm impressed with X-Sense. But it doesn't have much in the way of customization. And that means that whenever the mailbox is opened the alarm goes off. So you're triggering your own alarm every time you open the mailbox to get the mail. There should be a setting that allows the alarm to be triggered only once a day, or mutes it for a while after it initially goes off, or turns it off completely at certain times of day. But overall it works, and the one inconvenience that threatened its usefulness was solved with a higher quality adhesive.

Excellent product and price good. Installation and setup with base very easy and works great. Has multiple tone setting and volume adjustment. Loud enough to hear even in large space and has added feature of blinking red light on base module as reminder to check mail if notification missed WiFi range much greater than other products including Ring and several others tested. String steady connectivity up my mailbox which is about 70 feet away.
