Small batch delicacy, keto-friendly
I did not expect to like this nut butter as much as I did! I will be dating myself here but when I was a child, there was a health food guru who used to say “pine nuts are edible” as if it was some wonderful secret and people would joke about him. Guess what? Not only are they edible but apparently they are pretty tasty. Granted, it might be an acquired taste for some and I think that this will go better paired with a savory food but I am glad I took a chance on it. I try to eat as low-carb as is healthy and sometimes even delve into the keto realm for a few days, so I was happy to see that the macros on this are very keto friendly. This is a very high fat and low carb food with the added bonus of being high in iron. I wish they had more protein but that is not the fault of the company. It’s still has nutritional health benefits., IMO. The consistency of this is quite runny, maybe a little more so than natural peanut butter, but for me that was a positive because I have been using it as a dip. It has a very unique flavor… nutty and slightly sweet despite the fact that it has no added sugar. But if you’re thinking it tastes like a pine tree, it does not. ;) The only reason I did not give this five stars is because the price makes it out of range as an everyday food. I’m sure that is a function of how difficult it might be to get quality pine nuts for low cost but I probably wouldn’t buy this again soon unless I was having friends over and I wanted to impress them with my broadened food horizons. On the other hand, trying this has introduced me to this company, Wilderness Poets, and I have been to their website. I see that they offer nut butters across the spectrum. I think I might try their macadamia next.

So-so flavor
While I generally love pine nuts, there's something about the taste of this pine nut butter that I don't care for. Also, for my tastes it is too soft, even when refrigerated.

create what you love
pine nuts are a chore to harvest give the native Americans credit that I watch secure a harvest on the edge of the little Grand Canyon and I am so thankful that this group of people in Oregon have put it in a jar that I can spread thinly on whole bread with fresh fruit
