What is the width of the clip?

6 1/2 inches and has a nice grip. We buy the large bags from Costco and it works great (fold the top of the bag in from the sides and then fold over to clip).

What is it made of? The picture looks like a plastic ceramic-like material. I'm wondering if I should spend the extra money for stainless steel.

I am not that good at identifying materials but I agree that it looks to be like a hard plastic. It is the strongest clip I’ve ever used. I use it to keep 40 pound bags of dog food folded and clipped tightly at the top. I can’t imagine needing anything stronger. So far it seems to be as tight a clip as when I first bought it.
