Gifted: Lovely Little Things to Knit and Crochet

a crocheter's review
As always, keep in mind that "knit" comes before "crochet" in the title. And similar to frozen dinners promising "gravy and roast beef", there are more knit patterns than there are crochet patterns. How many more? There are a total of 20 more knit patterns that crochet patterns for a total amount of 34 patterns - 7 crochet, 27 knit. This is of interest to the crocheter because you have to figure out whether the 7 crochet patterns are worth buying. The patterns for crochet are as follows: Granny Bag, Crochet Flower Brooch, Cheerful Earmuffs, Gilded Mesh Scarf, Colorful Crochet Flowers, Felted Yule Bling and Felted Trivet and Coasters. The Granny Bag is as you would expect it to be if you are a crocheter, the twist being it is felted and lined. The Cheerful Earmuffs are very cute if you're an earmuff wearer. The Gilded Mesh scarf is great looking. The crochet flowers were all right, but honestly, the Felted Yule Bling and the Felted Trivet and Coasters just left me cold. The most intriguing pattern, the one of the little felted hearts on the cover, is knitted. Is it worth it for a crocheter to buy this book? Well, if you want to make really cool looking earmuffs, I'd say, yes, you should definitely buy this book. The mesh scarf is great and the fringe is a wonderful twist that I would never have considered. The crochet patterns are well written. But I have to admit I was really disappointed that the heart pattern was only in knit. The knit patterns look great. The Weekend Socks look terrific, the arm cozies are lovely. Not Being a knitter, I can't say how well they are written, but I'd would presume they would be well written because of the crochet patterns. What's the verdict? If you're a crocheter, you may want to check this book out in person to see how many patterns you would be likely to use. It does have some great ideas. The knit projects look fantastic and since there are 24 knit patterns, the knitters get more bang for their buck.

Not particularly PRACTICAL gits to knit @ Crochet
I am sure that a lot of effort went into designing the projects that went into this book. Personally I was looking for a book that offered more options for things to knit and crochet that were a bit more practical. For instance: Egg covers - for covering an egg that is served in a little wooden holder? . . . Seriously? I don't have time to knit 'stuff' like that! Would have loved to see ideas that were FUNCTIONAL as well as attractive. I realize that this is personal preferences, but this is one book that I wish I had checked out at the library before I jumped in and bought it! I just don't see myself reaching for this knitting book the next time I want to make a gift for someone! If you are looking for a pattern for gift and want to make a hat, scarf or mittens check out: 60 Quick Knits: 20 Hats*20 Scarves*20 Mittens in Cascade 220. Now that is a great knitting book!

Cute do-dahs to make ! Cute but I have enough clutter that's cute!
Can't wait to make a few of the lovely little things that I actually like! I wish there was a way to figure out just how many of what type of projects you would even like. This was cute for the two things I actually would make. I'm not sure why I bought this other than what was on the cover!Sorry, I'm a little crabby at the moment and don't need any other do-dahs in my life other than to give away as embellishments! It's Christmas and I'm tired and crabby! Ho ho ho

"Gifted ... Is the Gift"
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful - book is as lovely as I hope it would be and now the challenge will be to dare to attempt to duplicate any of the gifts included in it. I may just keep looking at it - the pictures are so crisp and clear, the colors so vibrant and you can almost feel the textures. I have had the book for three days and have yet to read a word of the directions - the eye candy is so distracting.

Some good ideas, not such good teaching.
I was all excited to learn to make the bangles, so I ordered the book. If I had not done more research on felting, I would not have had much success doing the project. She should have dealt with shaping the bracelets (I used spray cans). It would have been helpful to have better direction about washing the bangles. I experimented using large safety pins in the center of the bangle after placing it in a mesh lingerie bag. It seemed to crunch up less. I also found that a 12" strip worked better for size.

Gifted is right
Soooooo much fun to look at and hard to choose which project to do first! I had some friends over and one of them saw this book on my counter and started to look thru it.....then asked to borrow it....and now I have to get another one! Its that kinda' book! Buy two because if you have friends with the same interests as you....one is bound to "steal" your book! -ha! (Maybe that's why the author titled it..."Gifted"!!??)

Nice wee book
This is quite a nice wee book, nice photography, and a pretty selection of things that would make thoughtful gifts. The book is divided into sections, such as gifts for the body and gifts for the soul. There are quite a few small things that would usefully use up oddments of wool, such as egg cosies, knitted hearts, xmas decs. There is a useful technique guide at the back. My only small criticism is that quite a few of the things are felted, having said that it does help to elevate the quality of the knitted item. The other thing to bear in mind is that the author is Canadian and the book uses US terms for wool so the wool descriptions are different (eg Worsted Wool, Sportweight) to UK, although it does give needle sizes in mm as well as US.

Gifted a joy
I love the way this book is set out and the range of lovely little projects it contains. From the ribbed hat with its cute embellishment to the felted trivet and coaster set, it is full of things I will knit or crochet, or even sew if I forget what I've put in the wash and shrink a wooly. It is not just the projects that make this book a treat, it is the way the patterns are set out, which at first I thought a bit strange, but on closer reading seems better that the way they are usually written; the introduction to the book and the individual patterns as well as the glorious illustrations and the smattering of recipes. I even went as far as carrying the book with me, instead of a magazine, to read when I stopped for coffee. The only thing care is needed for is converting the American yarn types to British. I will be looking out for more books by Mags Kandis. Well done to her for creating a delight.

Beautiful
Iv just received this book and I love it. It's so pretty and even if all you do is read this book it is well worth it. I'm going to buy another one for a gift. This book is mainly for knitters and I'd say you need to be an average accomplished knitter as some of the projects look difficult but there is something for everyone here.

Inspiring ideas
I really loved the designs in this book, and have already made some of them - they have been quite easy for a moderately experienced knitter. I have struggled to get the yarns used, as the book is aimed at the US market, and many of these yarns are not available here. - my reason for only giving 4 stars. I get impatient having to do a test square for tension before getting started because of using a different yarn. Otherwise it is very inspiring!
