Clean, romantic book
Jennifer Moore is a favorite author of mine. I have several of her books and will always buy more. “My Dearest Enemy” is my very favorite book I have read of hers so far. I have bought 3 of this title to share with others. I love the whole story line of this book. It is compelling, romantic, and never drags. I love all of the characters in this story. I love the time era it is written in, the War of 1812. I can’t say enough praise worthy things about this authors writings! BUY! BUY! You won’t be disappointed!

Not your usual war-time romance
4.5 stars for this latest book by one of my favorite authors. I love the cover and I wanted to read it since it's by Jennifer Moore. Sad to say I don't remember anything about the war of 1812 (high school American History was 44 long years ago), so I had to look up a map to see where the story was taking place.Abigail Tidwell is solely responsible for taking care of her family's farm in Canada since her father and brother are away because of the war. She blames the Americans for her loneliness, and adversity. so imagine her surprise (and possible horror) to find one of the enemy lying badly wounded in her barn. American Army Captain Emmett Prescott doesn't remember much of the Indian attack upon his small group of men or how he came to be in Abigail's barn, but he knows he needs to get back to his men. Emmett gets Abigail to return with him to help one of his severely injured men, and as they spend time together on the journey there and at their makeshift campsite she finds herself attracted to the handsome Captain, even though he's the enemy. Is it traitorous to have feelings for someone on the opposing side? How much can you do to help someone who's in need before you're considered a traitor to your country? Just because someone is considered the enemy does it make it wrong to help them?Abigail is a strong female character for this time. "It seemed once her mind was made up, Abigail was the sort of person who did not alter her course." She's practically a doctor and is in to geology, which was really uncommon for women in the early 1800's. She may have blamed the Americans for her family being away but when she found Emmett badly wounded she didn't hesitate to help him by cleaning and stitching up his wounds, and feeding him. She also went with Emmett to help Barney's brother Luke, who was gravely ill because of a wound he sustained in the Indian attack.I loved how Abigail helped Luke because Barney "asked politely". She helped others out of kindness even if there were her "enemy". I also liked Emmett and his small band of soldiers who took care of each other like family. You can tell Jennifer Moore does her research from all the details in the book describing the battles and the town.

Heartwarmingly Beautiful
I think so far this book is my favorite from Author, Jennifer Moore. With a historical setting in the middle of winter weaves the perfect setting for this story to unfold with themes as courage, trust, resilient, strength, patience, determination, problem/conflict, pain, and a delightful clean romance. You can’t help but not fall in love with Abigail, Emmett, and other characters! Such a great book!!!

An admirer,
I read lots and reading this book gave me such enjoyment. The characters, all of them, were well thought through so the reader could visualize them. AbigailWhat a great read! The h is so different from the usual - needing to be useful rather than "a pretty face". The H a man to admire (his father doesn't) by his men and the h. I especially enjoyed the setting - Revolutionary War - there doesn't seem to be very many romance stories in this period.

Not your average war-time romance
This book was recommended to me by a friend. I'm not usually into war-romances; but because of my friend's enthusiasm for this book, I decided to try it and I am extremely glad I did. This book had me hooked by page one. I kept waiting for the inevitable "lull" in the book which, to my surprise, never came. It was the perfect blend of clean romance and on-the-edge-of-your-seat action. As soon as I finished "My Dearest Enemy" I headed to Amazon to by "The Shipbuilder's Wife" (The second book in this series). Save yourself the anxiety of waiting on the second book and just buy both books now.

Fun, light read. Not enough character development for my tastes.
I love this genre of books. I call it my Hallmark library. I didn't expect literary genius going in, but this one I did like less than others I've read... I think there wasn't enough development of the characters and their relationship at the beginning, at least not to merit aiding and abetting the enemy especially when her father and brother were fighting elsewhere. There also wasn't a lot of reference to the war and politics involved which would have made it more interesting to me. It did have some history and loveable characters. It was a fun, short read! Just not as good as others of this kind.

so good
Many twists and turns. I loved seeing the relationships grow. It also has me interested in the war of 1812.

Wouldn’t say it’s top of my list
I wasn’t very clear about the time period that this story takes place and had to look up some info based on the battles mentioned. This was a bit of distraction for me as I had a hard time following the story in context. The characters are all interesting enough and the two main people in the story you get to know well enough. There were times when it felt more unbelievable than believable and I caught myself skipping through to get to the conclusion.
