Great value starter kit. Perhaps not for absolute beginner
When I first started fishing, I bought the very cheapest equipment and it actually sufficed for catching small silver fish such as Rudd, Roach and small perch etc. I had a lovely time learning to fish with the kids. It quickly declined however and I found myself replacing it after a fairly short period of time. This kit is not the cheapest of cheap but it is great value. Considering the items contained within and the quality of build, the price is a more than reasonable. In fact, if you were to just use this for lure fishing then it is pretty much everything you need to get started. You could take this to the beach or river and start fishing. The rod is very lightweight but feels strong and flexes well without feeling like it's going to give. It is very soft and I wouldn't put anything much heavier than the included lurs on it. Certainly, less than 1 oz.The reel is a bait caster reel and the reason why I would suggest that the kit is not for the absolute beginner. Bait caster reels are more complex to use than simple spinning reels and can be frustrating if things go wrong. The chances of getting a bird’s nest tangle are much higher. I would suggest that this set would suit as a beginner that has already mastered using a spinning reel and now wants to try baitcasting. The reel is marketed as right and left hand, however when it’s sat right way up and on top of the rod, the handle sits on the right-hand side which would make it a left hand set up. Since the handle is not interchangeable, I would class this is a left-hand rod and reel combo. It's a solidly made reel. The rod length is not 2.1m. It says 2.10 on the bag and on the reel itself however the rod actually measures 2.0m from end to end. It is very compact when closed down and could easily fit in a day bag or taken abroad in cabin luggage. The set comes with budget fishing line which I would probably change up for something a bit better and a box of soft and hard lures and spinners.

Telescopic Fishing Rod & Accessories
This is a great little set which comes with a very handy zip-up carry case which contains the telescopic rod, a casting reel, a spool of filament and a plastic carry case containing various fishing lures. The rod, once extended, is just over 2 metres in length and can be compacted down to around 16 inches in length, making for easy storage in the carry case. The reel has a 7.2: 1 ratio making it quick on the uptake should you get a bite and a fine adjustment knob and magnetic brake switch can both be found at opposite sides of the reel. A variety of plugs, rubber lures and hooks are provided as your starter pack.In summary, I’d say this would make a great starter pack for someone keen to try angling but not too sure about committing to it full on. However, having said that, a fresh beginner might have reservations regarding the initial cost. Still worth a decent 4 stars.

Small form factor, not bad, not great though either
It's been a while since I've done the whole fishing thing. When I was younger, I was pretty avid but over the years that has fallen by the wayside and my gear has slowly disappeared after several moves. I would like to dabble back in it at some of the nearby lakes so what some gear that would take up a large place in my closet or garage. This is a decent small form factor starter kit for someone that does baitcasting. The whole kit is small and compact. Even with everything in the bag, there is still a lot of room left to add other things you might want like a stringer, extra line, more lures, needle nose pliers, etc. And the things they include are not top of the line but will function so you can enjoy the day.The rod expands outward but there really isn't any locking mechanism. The segments do seem to hold well though with the friction fit but I wonder if will hold true over time. The rod isn't rated anywhere besides length, but I would put it in the medium reaction. I was hoping it would be on lighter side of medium, but it is a bit stiff. Again, that may loosen up a little in time. Overall, the rod does what it should. The reel, I haven't made up my mind about yet. It is on the smaller side which is good for compactness. It does feel a bit small in my hand though and on the rod. But my old reel was a bit on the bigger side. It seems to work ok but it is finicky. Or I may just be that far out of practice. Setting the drag and such just gave me trouble. I was able to get it to settle for casting, but it took a few birds nest during practice casts. The drag seemed either to be heavier than I want or lighter than I want. I guess time will tell if I can get used to the setup, it may be user error than the reel.Overall, I feel like this is a basic set with the standout feature of telescoping. So, the price seems high for a basic set, but I guess the telescoping is what you are paying for. I think if you really want that, then this is a decent starter set for you. If you don't need that feature, then there are probably some better rod/reel combos out there at a better price.

Backlash
The rod is nice, I like the telescoping idea. Seems like a pretty well made rod that I expected. The tackle was just a bonus so nothing impressive or disappointing there. But the reel...I can't remember the last time I backlashed a reel this bad and on every test cast. The line actually somehow wrapped around the braking mechanism and I had the take the spool out to clear the backlash. This happened twice and the second time had to burn the backlash out. Since I like the idea and the rod I think I'll just put another reel on it to keep in the Jeep. Was too cheap to expect a super nice open reel. I think they should have just included a good closed reel instead.
