Absolutely fantastic 5 🌟 read the book in one sitting today. I've been interested in the life of Desmond Arthur since my first visit to Montrose air station a few years ago I've looked online and found little information on Desmond so was delighted to find this gem of a book. Beautiful pictures great story of a man who shouldn't be forgotten!! The perfect gift for anyone loving history or aviation. Would be interested in other books by this author.

I bought this to read up on the history of this man myself being a local my entire life. I was thoroughly delighted to learn about the history and the pictures illustrated throughout are fantastic. The information is extremely well detailed and must have been enormously hard to attain along with the pictures themselves. A great read!

The author's impeccable research and writing easily engages us with this amazing local character, relaying historical accuracy while portraying Lieutenant Arthur's life history in a very human & accessible way.

Central to this book for me is learning about early aeronauts and the necessity to put in place a viable airforce for World War 1.I was keen to read the personal story of Lt Arthur who was a contributor to the beginnings of the RFC. It’s so good to read of one man and his life connections which flow into the development of flying strategically. What courage and bravery all these men had ...as shown in the Honours Boards and many of them buried in Sleepyhillock Cemetery.After reading the book, I watched the 2019 film ‘2017’ which won 7 BAFTA nominations I believe. I watched the air fights with a different perspective especially as they were in France.So, it has inspired me not only to go to The Montrose Air Museum but also to pay a visit to Sleepyhillock.

Excellent publication… appropriately informative and easy to read. Fantastic photographs. Highly recommended indeed.
