Perfect food
Only slight niggling problem is that tin is quite impossible to open with finger pull ring. A can opener is the only way.Perfect healthy oily fish product.

Tasty fish!
Overall very impressed with this, the sauce does sometimes overpower the fish and that does make it hard to use this for cooking but as a snack or something to eat by itself this is a great option. Significantly cheaper to buy a multipack such as this than buying individual tins at the supermarket as well!

Good
Husband was very pleased, came well packaged and within date, tasted fine, easy to open, pretty good value for money for the amount you get in the box.

Taste
Expensive considering the quantity ( 75g drained weight ). I would not object to the cost except for there blandness, they lack that distinctive smoked kipper taste. I will be going back to John West, and they are not what they used to be.

yummy
I actually forgot how herring tastes as it's not easily found in the UK and it was lovely to enjoy it again.I like the tomato sauce and I normally get any canned fish with a sauce when I look to enjoy it on it's own and not as an ingredient in a dish. The only thing I'd mention is that it has a strong odor and you'll probably need to eat the can in one go rather than having just a bit and then saving the rest for later.

Tastes good, bad can
This was my first ever time tasting herring, and I really enjoyed it. The tomato sauce is what sets it apart from anything else. Its nice and fruity, and does slightly overtake the taste of the fish at time. The issue I found was the can. It was not the easiest to open and the ring pull squirted the sauce all the way up my arm. The can opening does not go edge to edge so its difficult to get everything out.Lovely taste, but terrible can.

Good quality sustainable fish
My family like to eat fish, but don't always want the preparation and cooking smells that go with the cooking. We also want to know that the fish is sustainable. This product is already cooked and easy to prepare. You just need to pull the lid off. It is very versatile and makes a quick lunch or supper. The fish is certified organic and is sustainable which is very important. This product is expensive as a result of this, but it is well worth paying extra for this.I'm not familiar with tinned herring, it's normally tinned mackerel. This made a nice change. It tastes great, not too fishy. I like this product a lot and would definitely recommend it.

Decent fish, but a little overpowered by the sauce
This is a good tinned fish that's ideal for a quick lunch or for quick convenient suppers, and for keeping some good healthy fish in your diet. Add that to the sustainable fishing, and it feels like a good product overall. The sauce is good, and the whole thing makes a good toast-topper or similar. The main issue we found was that herring just isn't quite strong enough for a robust sauce like this - unlike, say, sardines, it felt overwhelmed by the tomato-ey flavour, and though still good, just not as satisfying. It's 60% herring and 40% sauce, which is pretty much par for the course for this kind of tin - though it should be noticed that the sauce is agreeably free of odd artificial thickeners and so on.Price-wise, it's selling at £33 for 12, which is a bit more than the high street price on some comparable products - though this is possibly somewhat better quality? This is a decent product if you are looking for tinned herring, just not quite as exciting as we'd hoped!
