Very good light for the price
I have installed this light at the back of my house to come on when it becomes dark. It is one of the few lights that works with low energy bulbs which is important as the the light stays on all night. It is very good value for money although the instructions that come with it are very brief (they do not for example explain how to open the lamp to insert the bulb, in fact you just have to prise the front off using a screw driver!).

An Absolute Bargain
I bought 2 of these lights to replace old lantern style lamps attached to our extension. They were extremely easy to fit (according to my husband) and work brilliantly. We generally only switch them on to go out into the garden when it is dark. If we are going to come home late or are away on holiday we take advantage of the dawn to dusk feature for security. We previously had a timer switch for the old lamps and they did not work anywhere near as well. They do a brilliant job and look far more more expensive than they were.

Tough, reliable and economical.
I have had a total of 3 of these units lighting my property for over 6 years now. One of the original 3 failed after 4 years but the other two are still going strong. Unllike PIR security lights which switch on for a small time when they detect movement, this model of light switches on at dusk and then switches off again at dawn. They are all installed in exposed positions and have put up with driving rain, low temperatures (minus 15 on a few occasions), snow, hail and everything else that Scottish weather can throw at them. This says a lot about their construction and reliability. After trying unsuccessfully to source another identical light, I bought a PIR security light to replace the one that failed and it barely lasted a year before giving up the ghost. I then bought another PIR light (different manufacturer) and it has recently failed after just 10 months! Needless to say I have just purchased a Byron Elro after re-discovering them on Amazon!Bulbs are a little awkward to change as you have to use a flat-blade screwdriver to lever off the lens at 4 points around the lamp. This requires a degree of controlled force and a little perseverance as sometimes the cover springs back into the mounts when you are levering off the lens at another point. A good consequence of this is that it certainly makes unauthorised tampering with the light difficult. Also the tight fit of the lens will undoubtedly contribute to making the unit more weather-proof, thus enhancing reliability. On balance the awkwardness of lens removal is offset by the security and weatherproofing benefits. The internal wiring connectors, however, make fitting the light tricky due to the cable clamp screws (too small) and cable routing, but as long as you take your time and use the right tools it is a fairly straight-forward install. As you can use low energy bulbs the light is very cheap to run, and the bulbs required use standard screw-in fittings (E27 caps) so they can be bought everywhere for little money.All-in-all this is a very good product at a low price. If I could, I would have given this product a 4.5/5 review but unfortunately this is not possible. One star is therefore reluctantly removed for the slightly tricky light installation problems as it would have been easy for the manufacturer to use bigger screws in the cable clamp and tidy up the cable routing. For the price though it really is very hard to complain too loudly given their toughness and reliability. Great product! Recommended!

Faulty
I bought nine of these lamps. Two out of the nine were faulty and had to be returned. This is not a good failure rate...approximately 20% failure rate on leaving the factory. Quality control needs to be improved! They are fiddly to install and the clip on lens does not inspire confidence in its waterproofness. The lamps can only be installed vertically with the sensor at the bottom. This I found limiting and if the waterproof construction was better it may allow for installations in multiple orientations. This said the lamps are good value and do the job well. How well they last remains to be seen.I would recommend them as long as you are prepared for the fiddly installation and possible unit arriving dead.

I have battled with is in the dark with no success. Sadly I didn't have a ES 27 filament bulb to test. I have tried both PL and LED lamps less than 13 watts. When connected to 240 v 50 hz mains with live to connector nearest lamp centre and negative next to it (as shown in the schematic) in pitch darkness then switched on it clicks. However with movement it doesn't light. I even tried it in the upright position a the guide suggests - no joy. Looking inside the lamp holder it appears to have no contact terminal a the inside base to connect with the bulb?

poor in manufacture and execution of detail
poor in manufacture and execution of detail. First in common with other reviews the clear cover is very very difficult to remove. Thesmall photo in instructions is useless - what is the chap doing. In the end I got it off but before final assembly I took off the plastic pips andheld the cover with gaffer tape.Next, the cover plate over the terminal block-the tiny screw holding this in place was impossible to remove,soI had to drill the screw out to get inside. The screws provided for wall fixing were to big a gauge for the holes so these had to be enlarged. Also the screws were about 1cm too log for the plugs provided-another replacement! All in all I would not recommend this item at all.I did finish installation eventually and the lamp does work, but be prepared for a frustrating job!!

Very good value
I bought this item to replace a dusk to dawn light that I have had for some years. Some reviews say its fiddly to get the front cover off as you have to prize it apart with a screw driver, well this is a similar design as my old one although a different make so that was no problem, quite easy once you get the knack. One review I read said they understood this light is for indoor use only, if that's the case why is it advertised as weather & corrosion resistant? I have installed it on the end of my shed, it's an ideal safety / security device. My opinion is it's a good solid easy to install practical very reasonably priced product.
