Very nice coarse sharpening Whetstone for the money!
Thia is a fantastic 240 grit coarse whetstone for the £9.56 I paid!- it's now selling for £7 which makes this stone an absolute steal and well worth adding to your collection of whetstones for when you need to re-profile a really bad edge on a knife etc!.I had to re-profile a knife that had been previously sharpened on a pull through sharpener leaving the bevel too steep, blunt, and with a wavy cutting edge!. The process still took some time to get the edge re-profiled but there was a lot of metal to remove from the blade and this stone managed the job with ease and didn't show significant wear to the stone!. I soaked the stone for 10 minutes and added water to the stone continually to ensure the stone had a film of water on it during the sharpening/ re-grinding process of the knife. I've read other reviews of this stone that stated that the stone wore very quickly and ended up with a dip in it but I think the issue some people have had is due to not keeping the stone wet enough during use and people using the same part of the stone when sharpening chisels etc rather than moving the blade around the stone which stops it from developing wear in one area!.I re-profiled the edge to the knife and then sharpened until I had a burr on one side of the knife and then a burr on the other side, I then made alternating strokes to the sides of the blade to remove the burr which then indicated that I was done with this 240 grit and could mover to the next grit to continue the sharpening process. I tested the blade sharpness after finishing with this 240 grit stone and was able to slice through paper with ease making nice thin slices indicating that this stone can leave a suprisingly clean edge considering how quickly it can remove material being a 240 grit stone!.There was a tiny chip in the stone when I got it but it was very small and at the very edge of the top of the stone so not in a place that would cause any issues so that didn't bother me at all!. The chip must have been caused at the factory becasue I noticed it before I removed the shrink wrapping the stone was in and there wasn't the chipped off part under the wrapping indicating that the chip occurred at the factory. The stone came shrink wrapped and in it's thin cardboard packet however the packet was placed in to a cardboard envelope without any bubble wrap to protect it. I think these stones should at least have a bit of bubble wrap placed around the stone packet due to the risks of the stone getting chipped or broken during transit!. In my case the stone didn't incurr any damage during despatch as the small chip in it was obviously caused at the factory but it did make me think that these stones should be better packaged/ wrapped for despatch!. This is a minor issue and just a recommendation rather than a gripe because I'm more than happy with this purchase for the money I paid.I would definitely recommend buying this whetstone for when some more material needs to be removed from the blade!. The stone feels nice during use and provides good feedback helping with being able to maintain the correct angle when sharpening!.

Soft, fast and cheap
Used this to polish the edges on half a dozen already sharpened knives and parts of the surface have lost over a millimetre thickness. If you need a flat stone this is not going to last very long. You can feel it cutting and it doesn't take long to polish out scratches from a1000 grit stone. It is really cheap and as a quick finish or intermediate polish stone it is OK.

It's okay
This is okay I guess, but the first time I used it the grittiness wore off leaving quite a smooth surface and now feels much higher than a 240. It still does the job okay though but it's not a delight to use - I wish I'd spent a bit more and gone for a different brand. It's quite thin compared to other stones I have, however realistically I can't see me wearing it out and hasn't shown much sign of wear so far.

Quality stone for the price
For the relatively low price of the stone it does an excellent job for reprofiling and repairing damaged knives as long as you keep the stone wet, takes off a decent amount of steel on some of the higher end knives I was repairing

Very soft but cuts fast.
Likes: very cheap. Cuts fast. Builds up slurry in an instant.Dislikes: very soft wears quickly but a quick flattening with diamond plate and bobs your uncle ready to go again.

Not really fit for purpose
I bought this coarse stone to prepare and start the sharpening of some new wood chisels. Unfortunately after flatting the backs of 3 chisels (a 20mm, a 13mm and a 6mm) there was a hollow of almost 2mm in the centre of the stone as the photo shows. The stone is very, very soft and in use a thick sludge is produced - much thicker than the slurry you would normally expect. I cant imagine a scenario where you would want such a soft stone. Maybe I received a duff stone but I returned it and am just going to have to bite the bullet and get a diamond stone for coarse grinding. Needless to say - Not at all recommended!
