My own experience with mezcal began in 2010 and I can genuinely report that this book nails everything good and right about the spirit with originality and flair. "The Mezcal Experience" honors the plant, the process, the culture, and the hands that make this spirit so special. Insights abound, Tom Bullock's book breaks down why mezcal is such a rare statement in our industrialized world... myths are debunked, agave's magic is acknowledged, and Tom's journey with the spirit is one we can all draw from. Beautiful illustrations and photographs galore, this book is handy for those new to the spirit as well as seasoned mezcaleros. Top notch.

If you have the slightest interest in mezcal, this is the book for you. It’s about more than mezcal to be sure. It’s about art, process, history, culture, understanding and appreciation. The world of mezcal comes alive off the page and you can taste it and feel the essence while reading. The writing is not dry but colorful and spirited, with so much admiration for the subject. It puts you in the front seat of the truck. A wholy reccomended tome to accompany you on your way, on the high journey.

Everything you even wanted to know about Mezcal and more. A sharp wit, and compassionate point of view. You can tell the author loves the spirit so much he's willing to share his hard-learned secrets AND the hard truth about its future. I was very surprised at the production quality. It's a beautiful book full of tasting notes, recipes, bios and illustrations (by Secret Circuit no less!). All other mezcal books are far inferior. Couldn't recommend it enough, 10 out of 10.

I absolutely loved this book, knowing nothing of mezcal coming in but now wanting to learn even more. Tom's passion and subtle, smart humor makes this a must read for anyone wanting to dive into the mezcal world. Awesome piece of work!

My first introduction to Mezcal was during a trip to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico in November 2011. While I was aware of it before, it was non-existent in Bali, Indonesia where I was living so I was stoked to partake of this mysterious distillate that was given to me one afternoon by Mexican friends who at the time, were already commissioning several age-old palenques to handcraft Mezcal for production. I was very fortunate to taste Mezcal from several home grown batches stored in clear bottles with masking tape labels denoting the name of the mezcalero who made it, the village of origin, and the type of Mezcal. I will never forget the distinctively smokey flavors from the Mezcal varieties I tasted that day that were completely radical to my palate. I have since become a lover of this elixir and found T. Bullock's field guide to be most insightful regarding all aspects of Mezcal from it's history to it's production to the complexity and character of its flavors. Well designed and with great accompanying photos. Would def recommend

If you are looking into Mezcal for the first time, or wanting to deepen your knowledge, this is the book for you. The writing is inspired and gets you excited to learn more. The layout, artwork, and images are beautiful as well. 10/10 for sure.

Lovely quality book, great pictures, really informative. Doesn't try to list all the mezcals and tequilas on the market but sets out to educate and suggest some quality starting drinks for newcomers and progression points for more experienced mezcal drinkers looking to widen their experience. Good value for money at the full price, even better at Amazon's price. Interested in mezcal, get this book.

A great read for anyone who wants to know more about mezcal. Bought it for my husband for his birthday and he loved it. Great coffee table book.
