I have been doing Duolingo (which I really like), but the writing and memorization went too fast on the app. This book is great—gives me ample room to practice and memorize each symbol. Also has flashcards in the back. Looking forward to the books that come after as well. Therr are also lessons included in the book. This is a great way to start learning Japanese.

I have gone through this book and while I'm still learning, this has been the best approach thus far. It's not super video heavy, which is my personal preference and the shape practice and repeat aspects are extremely helpful. After going halfway through, I went back and ordered the next in the series. I hope it continues to be as helpful.

The book has a lot of pages for practicing your Japanese letter writing. I love the addition of the option to scan a QR code that brings you to lessons to deepen your understanding. If you want to learn Japanese, this book should be in your arsenal.

This book is perfect for starting to learn Japanese. It’s very intuitive and has a layout that’s excellent for learning, You can tell the person who wrote this book really cares and is a nerd❤️. I’m glad I found this!!!

Exactly what I was looking for

So far I really like this workbook! I like how much space there is to practice hiragana and katakana. I also like the way it is set up and how it includes flashcards. For me, what would give this workbook 5 stars in would be a tracing practice row at the top of each page alongside the initial stroke-order example. For first-time users, being able to practice over a “perfect” kana a few times is so helpful for muscle memory. Still, I really like it and find it to be worth the price. It works great for me, but my 12 YO kids practice with me sometimes and they’d benefit from tracing. They’re a bit too mature for the cutesy kids’ books, but there is a bit of a gap with the adult books. Still, this is my favorite workbook so far!

Comes with cheat pages and practice pages, similar to how I learned Cursive. There are also flash card pages meant to be cut out I believe. If you are a teacher I recommend you buy this for your students.

I wanted to learn Japanese, but trying to figure out where to even start with the different alphabets and all the new characters was overwhelming. But with this book, I'm finding it easy to work from one character to the next . The instructions on how to form each character are easy to understand and follow, and in only 5 min a day I learned how to make, pronounce and recognize one new character each day. The flashcards at the end are also very helpful, and I liked the few encouraging emails Hikaru Tamaki sent out. There are links to you tube videos in the book, which are very helpful also. Overall I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is trying to learn the Japanese alphabet as a foundation for learning to speak the language.

It’s a fantastic book to learn Kana, you can practice writing. It also come with flashcards to practice your memory. It gives links to very useful videos and learning resources. I definitely recommend it.

Present for my son who wants to learn Japanese. The book ios very good and plenty of opportunity to practice his writing skills.
