Q: What are the chemical constituents, please; safety reasons

I dont know. Maybe it says on the packaging. It didnt work on my picture anyway!

Q: Will it really remove old varnish

I'm unsure. I have only tried a patch so far on a canvas backed oil painting of my own, which has been sitting in a loft since the 1960's, so not that old really. I wanted to clean it up from the dust and dirt it had on it. It hasn't made a hugh difference as to bringing out a better colour which seems to have darkened, but it has brought some of the dirt off. If the painting is of value, it might be better done by a professional. Hope this helps.
