Good sound with no running costs.
Even before the cost of living crisis and the run away charges for electricity, I was moving towards being as carbon neutral as possible. Using a radio during the day for the news (powered by solar) meant less use of the TV. But with my old Pure Radio, I needed a 12v output, requiring fairly bulky set up of battery, solar controller and panel. So I was looking for something simpler, that could follow me around the house. At this price (£19.99) I was expecting a cheap looking device with poor, but hopefully adequate sound for Radio 4 and other spoken word stations. But on opening I was pleasantly surprised, it looked like a traditional radio and not obviously cheap. After turning it on and easily finding Radio 4, I was quite impressed by the sound quality. The relatively large speaker delivers a full sound, much like the sound from the far more expensive DAB pure radio. It can be easily charged by a 5v USB solar panel, and the charge maintained (or at least extended) by placing next to a window. So in effect, is free to use. Also freeing up the larger 12v solar charging unit, I can now easily keep my laptops charged up by solar power. I haven't as yet used the Bluetooth, or usb or SD card music playing system as I have other larger Bluetooth speakers more suited to music. However, if travelling light, I imagine these functions will prove useful. I certainly expect to use the SD card for audio books. I've only had the device for one day, so I cannot comment on durability, but I am optimistic that if treated carefully, it will last.

Love this radio it was louder then expected the battery life usually lasts about a week tops so not bad it’s a great size and fits nicely on my windowsill only issue is there isn’t a lot of radio stations but other then that love the rain and it has a great colour to it makes it pop and gives it that retro feel to it

Batteries would have been better
Wish I’d bought a radio that used rechargeable batteries. The charge doesn’t last long enough.

Have been using this radio for months now. Works great. I find that it loses stations when you turn it off, though. I have a favorite weak station between two powerful stations. If I leave it tuned to my favorite station when I turn it off, it always lands on one of the adjacent powerful stations when I turn it on, so I have to re-tune it. This tells me that it's not an analog radio, even though the dial appears to be analog. I think it's just an analog dial that tunes a digital radio; otherwise it'd stay tuned exactly where I left it when I turned it off. This isn't a real problem, so much as it's just an observation. The gripe I've got is the volume control -- it's wired UPSIDE DOWN! To turn the volume up, turn the knob down. To turn the volume down, turn the volume up. No idea why they'd wire it up this way, but it's not intuitive and is pretty irritating. If the power switch was separate, it wouldn't be a problem. But the VOL and PWR are the same knob, so you can't just set the volume and leave it there. It looks like an analog radio, I think the sound quality is fantastic for this price point, the Bluetooth works great, and picks up stations great. In my original review, I knocked off a star because of volume control was wired upside down. That was an irritating "feature," but upon reflection it didn't seem like something important enough to penalize them a whole star for! So I edited my review up to five stars. We use this radio on a daily basis, catching our favorite talk radio station during breakfast. We've been using it for many months, and it's still a terrific little radio. And it looks cool. Everybody knows if stuff looks cool, it works better. :-)

Got this primarily for use as a small media player and Bluetooth speaker, but, as long time collector and restorer of radios, was a little wary of its other features beyond FM reception being much more than gimmicks. In my experience, most Chinese radios with marginally pronounceable names haven’t been that good - Passable FM reception, lousy AM and, if featured, a solar panel that might as well just be painted on for looks (Looky kids, it’s got a flashlight too!). Even ones with mostly good reviews can be a gamble due to widely variable quality control. Not this one! Both FM and AM reception are excellent. Short Wave is decent (at night when the receiving conditions are good), though a little harder to tune due to close frequency spacing. All it lacks, in my opinion, is a Weather band. Bluetooth is good, and it does a good job of playing all those music and podcast files I dumped on usb thumb drives as well. Even the audio quality is very good considering the limitations of the small monaural speaker. The solar panel is no joke either. Right out of the box, without even installing the included lithium battery, it provided enough power to run the radio at limited volume in full sunlight. Sure, it can run off a set of D cells, but after fully charging the 1200 mAh battery it came with using the usbc cable, it appears that I may never need those as long as there’s a bright window sill where it can sit and top up with solar. (Granted, I only use it for an hour or two every day, and the weather has been sunny, so your mileage may vary). So far, I’m very pleased, and have even recommended one of these to a friend looking for a small patio/poolside Bluetooth radio. And, in case you’re wondering… that gimmicky flashlight feature is actually usefully bright as well :)
