prAnaMen's Stretch Zion Pant

Buy these pants right now ... just buy them.
Let me start by admitting I have owned these pants for a total of 2.7hrs, so I won't speak to their durability.Just arrived today in the mail, as in USPS (which arrives alot earlier in the day than UPS etc.). They come in this little plasic bag, rolled up to roughly the size of a hand towel, and completely wrinkled. I put them on right away to test the fit, and was surprised to find the wrinkling was gone pretty quickly, within a few hours of wear.I struggle to find pants that fit well as I'm 5'2" and ~135lbs, athletic build by dad standards. I usually wear American eagle 28x28 jeans, but I've gotten tired of the poor durability, and I hate that their size changes based on how long it's been since they've been washed (i.e. cotton/denim sucks). So after much reading and thinking I bought these Prana Zion Stretch in 28x30, figuring I would just hem them. Even though they are available in 28x28, that availability is mostly theoretical because I can't seem to find them unless I wanna pay full price for them in blue.Fit: I used the fit guide on Prana.com and it was spot on. It suggested 28x28, I also measured my waist using a tape measure and it was 30.75", so within the 30-31" recommended by Prana for a size 28 pants. The waist was spot on; perfect fit. The 30" inseam was slightly long, but alot shorter than I had anticipated. I won't them, and I won't bother looking for 28x28 anymore; 28x30 is fine. 28x30 jeans are never ok for me, they get all bunched up and look like crap.Style: I think they have a similar leg width to bootcut jeans, probably slightly narrower, but they still fit well over my boots. I definately wouldn't wear them to corporate event, but I work in a pretty casual environment, and they would be fine. If you're company requires business casual, these pants are not. If they allow casual, you're good. They look pretty cool overall. Reasonably 'outdoor'-stylish, not super baggy.Quality/value: Stitching looks good, fabric seems like good quality. Thicker than expected; these are not ultrathin pants. Regular price is $85. Yeah that's right ... you could buy like 3 pairs of dockers on sale for that price ... but then you'd be wearing dockers. I paid $50, and at that price I'll buy them all day. I end up paying nearly $40 for jeans because so few brands even make my size, finding a sale is nearly impossible. So for me, at $50 value is very good. At $85, I'd buy if I needed to, but I'd do everything in my power to wait.Comfort: Super comfortable. Imagine not wearing pants but still being warm and being allowed in public. They are actually slightly rough to the touch both inside and outside, but being stretchy, they never really press against you very hard. I've always worn jeans, but I may never go back.Durability: TBD. Nylon and synthetics in general are known to be far superior to cotton or wool in durability so my hopes are high.Stretch: They call this 4-way stretch. Maybe it is; I'm not a textiles expert. But I am an engineer, and I can tell you that I tested the stretch in a variety of directions and they don't seem to stretch at all in the direction from foot to hip.Warmth: I live in upstate NY, which unless you're from Montana, ND, Wisconsin, or Minnesota means unrecognizably cold. Today was not terrible at 16F and windy. These pants are significantly warmer than jeans.Applications: Obviously hiking. I bought these for general outdoor stuff, in particular hunting and scouting for hunting; for those non-hunters, scouting is like hiking but not on a trail. I suspect these will be perfect. Only downside is they are a little loud, but unless you draw your bow with your feet you'll be ok.Again, just buy them. Cheers.

Excellent Light Weight Hiking/Travel/Casual/Climb Pants
Bought these for use as a lightweight hiking trekking and travel pant for use in subtropical Florida climate and so far am pleased with the way they fit, look and perform. The fit is more form fitting in the legs and not baggy as with other hiking pants I have used. Also, the fabric appears to resist wrinkles which makes them the perfect travel pant. The lightweight, stretchy, breathable and water repellent and quick drying nylon fabric makes them a perfect choice for this challenging environment. They have a gusseted triangular vented crotch feature that should aid in mobility and allow added venting in this active area of the pant. I have other favorite nylon hiking pants (Columbia Silver Ridge my favorite) hiking/ trekking pants and these appear to be a little heavier fabric but are still comparable in weight. Probably better fitted for somewhat cooler climates. No SPF factor is advertised by this manufacturer but due to the natural SPF of nylon fabric it is probably has a SPF rating of 40-50 - similar to the advertised SPF rating of the Columbia Ridge pants - another bonus feature of this pant for those who want to protect themselves from the deletrious effects of UV radiation.Hopefully, durability is good as I plan to take them on a Joshua Tree National Park excursion with rock climbing planned! The double and triple stitching construction in key areas of the pant and metal waist closure button should provide some added durability (plastic buttons are not durable). As far as fit goes, I ordered my normal size 34X32 and while they fit me as expected - although just a slight tight in the waist and crotch area. The adjustable belts helps but still a little tight. With this feature you can wear these pants without a belt. As other reviewers have indicated recently, they do run a little tight in the waist area even with the expandable belt in the fully open mode. If you are using these pants to conceal carry a weapon in IWB mode then you might want to order 2 sizes up to accomodate for this. I intend to order next size up size 35 on future orders to give a little more room in those areas.Other features I like about these pant are the double zippered security pocket on the left pant leg that allows for both top and side access a really brilliant design and handy feature! Also, there is a security flap pocket (not velcro) on right hip to provide an extra level of security for storing wallet and or valuables. The large 2" wide belt loops allow for use of a wider belt that will better support and accomodate a OWB holster with no problem.Only cons I see with these pants so far are the somewhat short depth front side pockets and short front fly zipper depth. Not enough to take away from my 5 star rating.Happy Traveling and Trekking my friends!

extremely comfortable but odd sizing
I've been seeking the perfect hiking pants, and these are very close. Notably the cut, fit, fabric, and the built-in-belt are all great. But the sizing is pretty strange, or the manufacturing is off.I normally wear a 32 length, but in the Zion 32" are so long they would get stepped when I'm wearing my heaviest boots. A 30 length fits like a 32-length should.Odd-numbered waist sizes are rare in outdoor brands, so it was a pleasure to find they offered a 35W. I did try a 36W for comparison, and strangely that one had a shorter rise than the 35, so the larger size fit more "tightly". Odd manufacturing.Pockets, material, and fit are all decent. The pants have a roll-up snap to allow for shoes-off water crossings. The in-built belt is very welcome. Hiking pant brands that have neither elastic nor belt make no sense to me. Who wants to hitch up their pants regularly? And NOBODY wants to wear a traditional belt when hiking. The Zion does it right.Other than needing to figure out the fit, the only negative: the cut and style (and some colors) are definitely outdoorsy, so these are not quite "trail to dinner" pants, unless dinner is in an park type of location. That said, they're not as baggy as some brands I've tried-- cut close enough to look nice. Also note there's a new version of these pants, the reZion or ZionII, which I still want to try.Recommended-- but try a couple of sizes.

Excellent Pants
36" waist x 32" inseam MudI just took these on a 10 day remote canoe trip. These pants were simply really comfortable and to my surprise really durable. I was pleased about how durable they are because I put them through lots of kneeling, portaging, and different kinds of inclement weather. Absolutely nothing wrong with them after abusing them in the back country for a week and a half. I will buy them again!
