Blood C: The Complete Series [Blu-ray]

great horror anime
"Blood C" is a 2-disc anime series featuring 12 episodes (which originally aired in 2011). Although it's intended as a stand-alone show, it's part of the "Blood" franchise - and serves as a sequel to Blood - The Last Vampire [2000] [DVD ]. Given the success of the 'Blood C' series, it was followed by a theatrically released movie: Blood C: The Last Dark [Blu-ray ]. If you're a fan of the traditional horror genre, especially vampire tales, then I highly recommend this series. On Blu-ray the audio and picture quality is stunning - and the English dub is excellent. The basic storyline concerns an apparently normal girl, Saya Kisaragi, who is known for being friendly, kind and rather clumsy. She lives with her father, who's a priest of sorts, residing in the shrine of a small town. He's a master swordsman, and teaches her the "art of the sword" - so that she may fight the evil Furukimono ("Elder Bairns") - monsters that plague her town. Yet as she engages in combat - demonstrating amazing skills and techniques - she learns that everything is not as it seems ... Saya has a destiny - and as the series develops so we learn more about who she is and why she exists. The episodes are: "O Ye Winds of Heaven", "It Is for Thy Sake", "As for Man", "That Has Made Me Sad", "Meeting in the Way", "Dashed by Fierce Winds", "As Pitiless As the Storm", "Within the World", "Against My Wish", "Since 'Tis by Its Breath", "Whom Then Are There Now", and "If Remembering Me".This is an intriguing series - involving lots of intense action, sword fighting and monsters - that seeks to address the philosophical question of whether our character is freely chosen or determined, and - if determined - by nature or nurture. The price of this item does fluctuate - and is typically around £20 ... so if you can get it for less then that's a bargain.

Vampire bloodbath
A decent anime but not the best installment in the blood last vampire franchise. However it still worth a watch if you like the gore genre. it also had a great plot twist and the op is amazing.

Vampires, monsters and... blood
Blood-C is either one of the most brilliantly shocking horror series ever created, or one of the biggest practical jokes ever played on an anime-viewing audience. Through a violent, mystery-laced narrative, it explores some classic "big questions": Do those who fight monsters turn into monsters themselves? What does it mean to be a human or beast, to be good or evil? Where is the line drawn between fiction and reality? However, uneven storytelling and a bizarre plot twist right at the end leave an odd aftertaste.p.s. Sorry but this info was nabbed from some where else.... <--- Noel McCabe

Great!
A great re-imagining of the blood saga, Series starts off a little slow, but quickly picks up with some great fight scenes. Really enjoyed watching it, although would have liked it to have had more episodes to the series.

Where did it all go wrong....
Interesting story still, with plenty to keep your horror interests quivering. Be aware it doesn't have the "ending" as such, that's a follow-up disks which succeeds in disappointing. Not as good as the original 45 short.

Blood(y) C(rap)
It starts off entertaining but about halfway through you begin to suspect the people making it have as little idea as to what is going on as you have. The payoff is a Scooby Doo ending with an explanation that is somewhere close to incomprehensible, we watched the last two episodes three times over to try to figure out what it was about, my understanding was the town was a fake one created by the government as a kind of zoo for Saya and the monsters and the people were real, no idea who or what Saya was meant to be though! A lot of the fight scenes seem to be criticised for their goriness but they don't look particularly convincing to me. If I had the choice again I would have sat this one out...

Action, blood, tragedy, blood, supernatural, blood with a clever psychological element
Saya Kisaragi is seemingly normal girl who can be clumsy at times, and is kind to everyone that she knows and meets. Living in the hometown shrine she learns the "art of the sword" from her father, who is the head of the shrine. She fights against creatures known as "ancient ones", which are a series of monsters that feed upon humans, using a sword left by her missing mother, and has promised to defend her peaceful town.As she fights against them she learns more about who she really is, her real enemies, her real mission, and more importantly .... to whom did she promise? This series is more than your average hack and slash gore fest anime. Yes there is blood, lots of it in fact at times, and there is also gore, but don't let this fool you. Once the key storyline starts moving after a couple of episodes you appreciate how clever it is, how even the smallest of moments are interconnected, and the message about what it means to be human. This style of show is not normally what I watch (romance comedies where normally the only blood I see are from nosebleeds), and yet this series had me watching it all in one sitting, thoroughly enjoying the series and left me wanting more.Watching this in blu-ray the animation is fantastic, and the action scenes superb and well paced, and combined with the storyline this series is definitely worth watching.I have given this series a solid 4 stars out of 5. As much as I love the action and storyline there are a couple of niggles that wouldn't quite go away (can't go into without giving away spoilers), so I couldn't give it 5 out of 5.I am very looking forward to Blood C: The Last Dark being released. On a side note the Blu-ray itself I found odd in the sense that I had no control over the subtitles. If I wanted to watch the japanese version the english subtitles was always on (whether I wanted them on or not), and if I watched the english version I could not turn on the subtitles at all. I tried the disc on 2 different machines and got the same result.
