What is the minimum in-soil depth I need to block bamboo from spreading?

Bamboo typically travels in the first 14” of soil for most species in normal conditions. This can vary depending upon soil conditions, climate zone and species of bamboo. A good general guide is that 24” is for cold climates (climate zones 5-6) 30” is for warm climates (climate zones 6-8), and 36” if for hot climates (climates zones 8+).

will this work on bamboo that has already spread?

It will prevent future rhizoms from spreading but any viable rhizoms outside barrier may continue to spread. You are better off with barrier, the bamboo will become more resilient in time

My neighbors planted 6 palm trees by the fence. Will this prevent roots from destroying my concrete slab?

Hi,I'm from Phoenix originally and the palms I've seen have a small root base and I just did a little research and palm trees don't rhizome out like bamboo. If the palm in question is very near to your slab, I would think the barrier would work well since the palm tree article stated that palm roots are thin and can't push through heavy soils and the shield I used is very thick, like 2 times the thickness of a credit card.Hope this helps,David
