Best Series I Have Ever Read
To begin, understand that "A Dance with Dragons" is the 5th book in the series. There is much confusion about this book release. In the U.K., publishers divided the book into two parts to make it easier to read due to the length of the book. In the U.S., most of the publishers released it as one book. So, when you see Part 1 and Part 2, these are not different books with different information. You can read it all in one book, or read parts 1 and 2 and get the same story. That being said, also make sure to read the page from the author regarding the chronology of the book. Basically, this book is written to back-fill information and stories from book 4, "A Feast for Crows." And Martin explains this at the beginning of the book. If you read this book without first understanding the chronology, you may be lost. I have really loved this fantasy world and I cannot wait until this Fall when the 6th book, "The Winds of Winter" is supposed to be released. Martin is not sure when the series will end and how many books will be written to complete the story. I've heard anywhere from 6-8 books may comprise the series. It does not appear as though the 6th book will end the series though. So, I think we can count on at least one more; but I suspect there will be another after that.

Winter Is Coming
In the second installment of A Dance with Dragons we follow; Tyrion Lannister and Asha Greyjoy as they attempt to escape imprisonment; Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen as they struggle to come into their own as Lord Commander of The Night’s Watch & Queen of Mereen respectively and Stannis Baratheon & Cersei Lannister as they continue to fight for the Iron Throne. This book is the slowest paced of the series so far with the least amount of action but is just as good as the previous books because Martin expertly sets us up for what we can be assured will be massive battles and defining moments in the Winds of Winter. The pace of this book allowed me to really appreciate what Martin has done with this series. He doesn’t need to rely on bloody battle scenes and intricate theology because the Song of Fire & Ice series is a study of our human nature, our motivations and desires which are riveting enough.

Serious Frustration
I started reading this series of which this is the fifth after seeing the TV series. They as far as they go are very good. What has got my goat is the fact that at the end of book 5 and there is still no end in sight. Half the characters that I liked have disappeared others are dead and although some of the bad guys are dead there are still way too many of them still out there. Now I have to wait for George to write the next book!!!!

A Dance with Dragons: Part 2 After the Feast - a satisfying meal that leaves you room for more
This book ties up a lot of loose ends in Book Four and sets the scene for what is to come next. Of course the frustrating thing is WHEN is the next book ever going to come out? I love the maturation of Sansa and Arya and the very different directions they go both physically and psychologically. Jon Snow is developing into a strong leader with many challenges ahead. Dany and her dragons, can't say too much that would spoil things for the reader, but let me just say that there is a lot happening in her world in this book. A must read but come on, George, we have waited far too long……

A good read, but hard to keep everybody straight
I've enjoyed reading all this series, but the cast of characters is too complicated to keep straight, certain repetitions get tiresome (food is always stew eaten out of trenchards), and the author seems disturbingly interested in extreme physical violence, including torture and rape. It's not great literature, and I find it a quick read, but despite that, it's extremely engaging and I will definitely keep reading the books as they come out. I definitely want to know the end of the story!

Reading them in order may help.
The story was bogging down somewhat with insignificant happenings and many more characters with difficult names to keep straight. Believe me, I check the back of the book that shows how everyone is related. Also, I read 5 before 4, so that may have something to do with it. At least the books were divided into two so that it wasn't over 1000 pages.

dragged rather for me
So, finally, with this book, I have completed the currently published A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones series, nearly four and a half years after reading the first, and in my view best, book, the one actually called Game of Thrones. This final part felt rather scrappy, and only Daenerys Targaryen's story thread really held my interest. Some of my other favourite characters, Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister, were not in it enough for me. The book ends on a cliffhanger, paving the way for successor The Winds of Winter, which seems to have been forthcoming for ages. Looking back at my reviews and ratings, and taking together the two volumes into which both books 3 and 5 are separated in the UK, I have given a lower rating to each successive book: 5; 4; 3.75; 3.5; 3. That said, I am sure I will read The Winds of Winter when it finally emerges.

Ripped Off!
I don't normally write reviews of books, as one person's masterpiece is another person's flop. But I've waded through seven books, finished the last one (so far?) and I'm none the wiser! He's left the story in the middle! He's found time to write books about things that happened before Game of Thrones, but can't finish his existing story. I wish I'd never started the first book! George R. R Martin must be laughing all the way to the bank! I'd just bought season one on DVD, but I won't be contributing to Mr Martin's wealth any more!

Slow!!!
Phew, finally the end to this part in the epic has been reached. I found this tome hard going, and, at times, I was ready to throw the towel in and move on to the next installment - a fear that I may miss something vital was all that prevented me doing so. Far too much, needless by now, information on armour, weaponry, feasts, ballads, whoring and meandering travel!!! Too much description and too little action ... I really hope the next book has a faster pace and is less arduous to read...

Game of Thrones - a long-term committment!
I have now read all the books in the series. I loved the first 3 but they do seem to be getting a bit 'unfocussed'. And I'm seriously disappointed that the main characters around which the early books were build have been killed off! There is no clear 'hero' or 'heroine' that you can get behind and who takes the stories forward for you. I enjoy all the characters but you just decide whether you like a character or not, if they're a goody or a baddie (!) and they are either written into obscurity or killed/murderd. I do find this frustrating. I loved Ned & Catelyn Stark, Rob, Jon Snow, Kevan Lannister even Tyrion! And am desperate for the Stark siblings to be reunited.I am massively impressed that someone can continue such an intricate story for so long, over so many words but it does feel like the story has become a little disjointed and is losing its way a little.Having said that I am equally frustrated at having to wait unti 2017 for the next instalment! These are the only books I have read for the last couple of months and find it difficult to work up any interest in anything else I currently have stored on my Kindle.'Game of Thrones' is a marathon, one with it's ups and downs, fast pace and slow pace, but overall I love it :).p.s. I have never watched any of the TV series - not sure if one would spoil the other.
