Pickup magnet
Works for my intended purpose. I use it to pick up saw blades from a 55 gallon drum. Blades weigh approximately 7lbs each. Sometimes the magnet will pick up 2 blades at once.

Strength
Holds more than advertised. This thing is awesome.

It does what it claims.
I did a class 1 beam load test. The printed "88lb." load capacity statement is 5 lb. under my max load test at 93+lbs. Very good! I would not advise anyone to operate such an item within 25% of its limit for general safety, but test conditions were controlled so we could get some target numbers. The construction is solid and the grip action is very nice and has a rubbery grip. The magnet piston moves smoothly and retracts at total 0.155in into the piston sleeve. *It is loosing 2 stars because it needs more piston retract depth if you want to release items under 5lbs. The magnet is that strong. I would hate to have an uncontrolled 5lb weight let loose by mistake over sensitive surfaces like feet or moving mechanisms. More piston travel would give a cleaner release. *Overall it is capable of doing its job for a long time. Just watch those feet and wear the safety shoes. * it is not good for lifting items smaller than the piston because they don't get away from the magnet. 3 stars.

Not what I expected but works
I searched Amazon for a strong magnet with a release function to pick up small metal tumbling media. This is to replace the last one I had that was flimsy and broke. This item came up in my search, and I didn't realize that the release function doesn't work for small items, only if you're picking up a big metal item. I plan to modify it with plastic barrier so the small items will drop away (hopefully) when the magnet is retracted. Overall this magnet is strong and seems much sturdier than the last magentic pick up tool I had, so I'm really hoping the modification will work. I wanted to leave a review clarifying for others that as is, the design of this doesn't allow for the release of small items.

A true 5 star magnet lifter...
This impressed me a lot! Most low cost magnetic devices fail in strength... this one exceeded my expectations. I'll be buying more in the future!!

Strong! Releases Easy Too!
I don't think this could be any easier to use! I just place the magnet on magnetic metal and it holds to it. I can then move the metal (within a reasonable weight of course), then squeeze the handle and the magnet can be easily separated. I have used it with some cabinet panels that I keep from old appliances and such. They are all ferrous and have very sharp edges due to my many cuts into them. I no longer need to worry about cutting myself since I no longer need to grab the metal from the edge - the magnetic handle picks it up from the middle. This is especially helpful if the panel is flat on the floor (which has happened more than once). I have other magnets that I use when welding, but none of them are like this (with a handle and a quick-release). I also have some magnets that I use when I machine metal that are part of movable equipment that I can attach to anything magnetic, then turn a handle to remove it. These are similar, but do not have a handle to grab metal like this. I have not yet used it for this purpose, but absolutely will in the future: To remove a metal plate over a drainage trough, and to remove the metal plate at the bottom of my gas stove above the lower burner. I am certain there are a great many other uses that when they occur, I will use it for and for other people, I am sure each of them have unique purposes in mind. I wish I had this when I was a technician in the field: putting panels on machines would have been easier. I really do think this as a very useful and quite durable tool and have no complaints about it. I do think that this will last for many years too. I do recommend this.

Better than what I was expecting.
For starters, N52 is not a bad choice for this. It's pretty strong for it's size. but I would have prefered to see N56 being used. Neodymium magnets generally run from N35 - N56 with the higher the number, the stronger the magnet is. Yes, there are stronger custom Neodymium magnets available but you better have some very deep pockets for those. I also noticed that these are not 'H' (heat) rated which means this is only good up to a 60C (140F) temperature. I would try to keep it no higher than 55C (131F) as high temperatures will weaken the magnet's flux density - quickly. The 'H' rated nagnets are good for about 120C ( 248F) and the "SH' rated magnets are rated for about 150C ( 302F) . Fit, finish and construction are better than I expected at this price. This works quite well. The lever to release the magnet is easy to use and handy. While they don't say what the weight limit is on these, there are two things to consider. Some ferrous metals (steel, iron,SS) are 'more ferrous' than others allowing the magnet to work it's best and the surface needs to be flat and smooth for full power. They show a picture of this next to a 45 kilo barbell plate weight that has a rough finish on it. I have serious doubts this would pick that up. Martketing hype? Probably. Will it pick up a smooth 45 kilo iron plate? Maybe. I have not tried that yet. If you didn't know, an N56 Neodymium magnet is 25% stronger Good deal? Absolutely. I like this and am glad I got it.
