What an amazing coffee table book!! At first I was a bit disappointed seeing it was mainly just Alternative/Indie femme artists but after looking through more I saw more punk and riot grrl bands as well. Highly recommend!! Super high quality images and great read!

Great book.

The volume is more about 'styles' than 'sounds,' being primarily a volume of photos of women in the punk scene (primarily performers, but a few hangers-on as well), from the 1977-1993 era of punk's heyday. The chapters are divided between US and UK scenes, with very short introductory essays and a few interviews. Pleasantly nostalgic (and perhaps useful for those who might want to dress up) more than informative.

Wow! All of Sam Knee's books are great because they're fabulous in showing the people, the time, and the music scenes. His book, The Bag I'm In is a great collection of music tribes. Untypical Girls is really special because it shows the women who loved the music, created the bands and made scene. Hey! Ho! Let's Go!
