LOVE LOVE LOVE these shoes!
LOVE LOVE LOVE these shoes! As someone who finds sneakers incrediably uncomfortable (no matter the brand or type) these are by far the most comfortable shoes I've tried. Now I am someone who spends most of my time barefoot in yoga or in flip flops anyways, so I was looking for something I could run/work out in with very little "traditional" sneaker feel as I have never found a truely comfortable one until these. They are super light, totally breathable, and very multi - fuctional in terms of terrain, use, water, etc. The grip is incrediable for hiking & trails, though a little less so on my gym's wood floors.... but not enough so that it's a problem. I've evan started to wear them on a more everyday basis they are so comfertable. They do run a bit wider in the toe box than a traditional shoe, but this works perfect for me and isn't that the point of Barefoot shoes? I am now a Vivobarefoot convert....

Great trail hiking shoes
These are terrific trail shoes. I do not run, but use them for hiking on fire trails and single track trail hikes. Just the right amount of thin sole to protect your feet, but still allow you to feel the ground underneath. They are very flexible, but stiffer than other "street" Vivos. Fit is perfect, with plenty of room in the toe box.The light color is not actually too bad for keeping clean - I just vacuum them after a hike and run a damp cloth along the white edge. The turquoise color is fun. Can't beat the price on this "last season" color compared to this season colors, which cost 3 times more!

Growing on me
Okay: I am new to minimalist running shoes, but I am barefoot most of the time and the "transition" for me was non-existent. However, I was not expecting the fit of these. I have a pair of Merrell Bare Access Ultra and the Bare Access Trail and those are much more structured. This is more like a slipper. It's like wearing a non-breathable sock with grippy bottoms. It is suggested (inside the box top) to remove the insole if you have one and I did the first time I took these out. I didn't like them. So, I tried them with the insole (which the top says is only for insulation against cold weather) and although the fit is tighter, they feel much better on my feet. They are really like a glove... you have to slide your feet in and then fiddle with the toggle a bit to get the pressure right around the areas of your foot you like more or less tightness. it seems to be somewhat ineffectual.I cannot wear these with socks - my toes are at the very top already and they'd be too small with even very thin socks. I don't like that- I like socks for running. I'll find out soon enough if they are destined to stink. After 2 runs, they are still fine. Also, no blisters or uncomfortable seams. They're ugly as heck!! It's fairly comical, so I can pull it off. I almost can't imagine an uglier shoe! It's just not appealing to me at all and they look gigantic on my foot.Edited to add: I wear a 41 EU / 10-10.5 shoe. The 10.5 is too small for socks of any type, but I can get them on with not a millimeter to spare. I haven't had a problem with long runs and swelling, but I never have for any shoe. I do 20-30 miles of tough trail/mountain a week on average.

Very comfortable trail shoes
I had such a hard time figuring out the shoe size, they don't make it easy. I used my own experience with euro sizes and then looked at a few reviews. I ordered a size 38, which they indicated would be an 8.5. Since I'm a 7.5, I was a little worried. When the shoes arrived, I pulled them on and they were not a size too big, thank goodness. I'm not sure if they don't do half sizes or what, but my toes have the tiniest bit of room with socks, so when the socks are off, they're perfect. I've always used hiking boots for walking trails. After trail freaks, I'll never go back, so lightweight, great grip, easy to climb over things, under things and across the top of things.

Rewarding challenge
Just be careful with transition from regular “padded” sport shoes to “barefoot”, unsupported style of you never tried it. I initially ignored the advice to start slowly: just walk couple of hours a day in those shoes, then use run/walk pattern for the training, then just run, but not overwork your feet. And I hurt my ankles really fast. After awhile, when I recovered and get used to the barefoot running gradually, I am so happy, I feel my feet really got stronger in these shoes. They are really lightweight, don’t constrain your foot, have ideal traction on any surface I ran through, from wet leaf litter to gravel

Changes to fit and quality, with reduced water resistance....disappointing.
I have been purchasing and heavily using Vivobarefoot products for four years. I must say that this most recent iteration of what was previously the "NeoTrail" is not up to Vivobarefoot's standards. I disliked the mostly plastic exterior that is not remotely water resistant, the fact that it gets very cold, very quickly in winter climates, and the horrible color choices. Where are your simple, dark earth colors? I don't want to have obnoxiously colored feet on the trail-it's very distracting! These shoes also had a noticeably narrower toe box that forced me to wear my thinnest wool socks (which did nothing to assist the already flimsy protection from the elements). This "vegan" labeling for cheap, environmentally UNfriendly materials is bogus. Using leather would provide a superior product with more weather-resistant properties.Lest you think I am making a simple judgement, I have worn these shoes over the past year and easily put a couple hundred miles on them. The shoes redemption comes in the fact that they have made it this far (but are showing serious signs of wear now). The styling continues to have the flexible, aggressively lugged soles with zero drop. The toggle switch from laces was also a nice touch. I make this review from a very disappointed standpoint. I have yet to find another brand that captures what I had initially loved about the NeoTrails, but I am no longer a promoter of the Vivobarefoot brand. You can do better!

Great multi-terrain, multi-use shoe!
I really wasn't sure, if purchasing this shoe would be a good idea. It is expensive, I had to order it online without trying it in a shop and some of the bad reviews really made me think twice. But in theory it really was what I was so badly searching for: a barefoot shoe, light and comfortable, waterproof, sporty and fit for tough terrain. As I am very minimalistic I wanted one shoe to use in spring and autumn when you can never know if it's going to be wet, for everyday use, running, hiking and trailrunning. And this shoe fullfilled all my expectations!!!Yes, the material on the top is harder and less flexible than on other vivo barefoot shoes. Since most of them have that very light mesh net that couldn't possibly be made waterproof, I get that. And yes, if you're used to wearing barefoot shoes you're not used to having to break them in, but you do with these shoes. After the first day of wearing the shoes I had a red spot above my big toes, where many people said the shoes were too narrow. But after a week they had softened and widened and my toes were fine.Concerning their general tightness: As I have very small and narrow feet with a flat spun, for me it is fine. I can even wear them with thicker socks. And at least my pair really is waterproof. I hiked through puddles and small rivers and my feet stood dry. Of course their not high, so water can come in from above. But I appreciate their flatness, as it makes them light and sporty. In heavy rain or similarly wet conditions I would wear them with higher waterproof socks. For their official use - trail running - they're great. The sole gives a lot of grip while you can still feel the ground. Which for me also makes them great hiking shoes. When you're not running but hiking for a whole day it is much more important that you're feet stay dry, and I hate that most hiking shoes are these huge, heavy monsters that cage up your feet and don't let you feel anything of the ground. For every day use they work for me, too. Of course if you're in simple conditions you wouldn't necessarily need the thicker sole with more grip, you could have a thinner and softer sole to feel the ground even more. But as I don't want to have ten pairs of shoes, these do well. I'm always prepared for rain, muddy conditions or having to run with these shoes.Just one thing is a minus point for me. The waterproof material makes them less breathable, which is just logical. But when it's warm or when I run I find my feet getting a little too sweaty in there. With breathable bamboo socks it is better. I do not recommend wearing them without socks.I guess the hardness and non-breathability of the material are why vivo doesn't produce them anymore. But for me waterproofness is a great feature for which I'm willing to go with a little less comfort. They're definitly still much much more comfortable than a non-barefoot waterproof shoe.So I am already sad that vivo doesn't make them anymore. I'm gonna need a new pair when I've outrun these :((Also; International Shipping said the package could arrive anytime in the next month - but it was here 2 days later. That never happenend to me before :D

Vivo Barefoot Trail Freak
These are the most comfortable 'barefoot' trail shoes I've found. Grip on even the worst terrain is good, they've never rubbed, there's enough sole thickness to protect your feet on rough, rocky ground and they last quite well compared to other brands I've tried. Now on my second pair and they're top of my list to buy when I need to replace my running shoes again.

supportive barefoot
Having already transitioned to barefoot with a previous pair of Vivobarefoot shoes I like these shoes. They are a little more protective than my first pair which were incredibly thin and responsive and are better for walking on pavements and road. They have a nicely grippy tread and are easy to get on and off. I don't run in them just walk (between 5 & 10km at a time) and they have been good for that.
