Great food chopper, easy to clean
I bought this brand to replace the OXO chopper that broke. It works great but within 3 weeks, the clear plastic outer ring cracked, they sent me a complete new one promptly. Zyliss is a very reputable company and I love their products.

Easy to use and clean
Zyliss makes the best food chopper. This is my second one. My last one I had for about 10 years. It chops fast and perfect and is easy to clean. Highly recommend

okay
It’s good but not as good as the original. I still have it but it has a crack. The new one does not seem as sharp or as easy to disassemble

Chopper
Love my new chopper! It’s replacing my Zyliss chopper. I had probably 20 years ago and it’s working great.

> DOES THE JOB
UPDATE > The photo suggests that this is a cheap version of the "old" or "Classic" Zyliss chopper (which at the time of this writing are $28 each), lacking a built in chopping container, and maybe smaller. NOT so. The Zick-Zick is an IMPROVED version. It is "full-size" and DOES have a chopping container (which you may use or not--see below). > CAUTION - Many or most of the Amzn reviews on this page actually refer to the "old" or "Classic" model --- Amzn just copied the old reviews over. Indeed the remainder of this review is of the "Classic" model which I wrote 10 years ago (since Amzn will not allow me to write a new review, but only will allow me to edit this old review). PURPOSE > The purpose of a Zyliss Chopper is to quickly and easily mince or "mush" a MODERATE quantity of vegies (about 1/4 cup to 1 cup), for use in a soup, garnish, spread, or dip etc. I use it mostly to mince garlic, nuts, pitted olives, and herbs. For these purposes, the Zyliss Food Chopper is the BEST tool available. > OTHER OPTIONS: For some purposes, a sharp knife, a mandolin, a grater, or a food processor is a better choice. It is easier to manually dice tomatoes, onions, celery, and so forth, than to use the Zyliss Chopper, but you can use the chopper to further mince already diced onions etc. It is easier to manually mince a single garlic clove, than to use the chopper. But if you want to mince 10 garlic cloves, there is NOTHING better than the Zyliss Chopper. > CAPACITY: This isn't a food processor, the Zyliss Chopper is intended for use when you want to chop a moderate quantity of vegies, without setting up, cleaning, and putting away your monster food processor. If you need to chop more than a cup or two at most of vegies, a food processor is a better choice. HINTS ON USE > Cut whatever you want to chop into ~1/2" to 1" squares. > You can fill the container completely, but it works best if less than 3/4 full. > Use with the chopping container, or on a plastic/wooden cutting board (without the cutting container). Do NOT chop directly in a glass or ceramic bowl, or on a stone counter-top, as this will dull the blade. > Whack the top of the chopper good and hard with your open hand or a closed fist, usually 10 or 20 times. > When done, disassemble and clean. > It is best to hand wash and air dry. Be careful of the sharp chopper blade. Do NOT cut yourself, and do NOT damage the blade. COMPLAINTS OF OTHER REVIEWERS > As far as I can tell, most the complaints of other reviewers are from individuals who either had unrealistic expectations or did not use the chopper properly (see "Hints on Use" immediately above). > You've got to "whack" the top pretty hard. Children, small women, and the elderly may not be able to whack it hard enough. And you need to whack it 10 or 20 times in most cases. Be careful to protect the blade so that it remains sharp. > I've never had the slightest difficult cleaning the chopper. A good rinse IMMEDIATELY after use, is usually enough. RUGGEDNESS/RELIABILITY This my third Zyliss Chopper. The "threads" of the clear plastic shield of the first two (both "classic") broke, making the chopper difficult to use. I hope that the Zick-Zick features less brittle plastic for the shield.

Works well, worth the cost, difficult to clean
I bought this to replace an older version that I've been using but recently took a fall and the clear plastic cup broke. This model looks different but the chopping mechanism is very similar. Yes, the plastic piece (blade wipe) that fit over the blade can be a little stubborn to align correctly but it isn't too bad. Overall it works well and it is definitely worth the cost. UPDATE: After a year of use it is still working fine. My biggest complaint is that the white plastic housing doesn't split apart for cleaning. I didn't notice that it didn't have that feature when I first reviewed it. The one that I had previously did split apart (hinged at the top). The lack of the hinge makes it much harder to access the blades to clean it. Basically, you need to hold the plunger against the spring force to get at the blade. Irritating. I'm taking away a star and recommending that people look for a chopper that splits apart and is easier to clean.

Snaps like a rat trap
I generally like Zyliss products, but this one is pretty terrible. I bought this to replace an old OXO chopper that worked great, but eventually broke after many years of use. First of all, the plunger doesn't not lock in the stowed position securely - it only takes a little perturbation anywhere for it to pop open, and so it feels like I'm handling a loaded rat trap whenever it's in this position. This presents a problem in a few scenarios. It's difficult to reinstall the red blade guard - it's much easier with the blades extended when the unit is in the stowed position (plunger down), but, of course, the rat trap nature of unit makes this pretty scary. Cleaning residue off of the blades is much more effective with the blades extended, but even moderate water pressure and movement can cause them to snap. Again, this is pretty dicey. The drawer that I keep it in is just tall enough to accommodate it when it's in the stowed position. However, sometimes after I close the drawer, or when the cabinet is bumped a little, it pops open, and basically locks the drawer closed. Opening said drawer again requires a lot of cussing and skinned knuckles. The sharp blades poke out of the blade guard when fully retracted, which feels really dangerous when taking the blade guard off for cleaning or generally setting the thing down anywhere. Finally, the plastic container that holds stuff that you want to chop gets cut up by the blades and flakes of it end up in your food. The OXO chopper has a blade guard that guides to help it align with the blades easily and a handle that extends away from the blades that makes it feel a lot more safe to handle. Plus, it didn't snap like a rat trap. I honestly can't fathom why I didn't just buy the newer version of the OXO instead of trying the Zyliss.

Must Have Kitchen Gadget
I bought this Zick Zick Zyliss to replace our original one that we bought in Germany 34 years ago and that sadly cracked a week ago. This new version works just as well and seems to be of equal quality, so I expect it to last just as long. It looks just like in the product photos in the listing and is just as described. The blades are nice and sharp but safely covered to prevent accidental cuts. The plastic guard is thicker than in the original version and so is the clear 'cup' which can be used to hold and store chopped food with the included lid. It easily chops up garlic, onions, nuts and other like food items and is dishwasher safe so cleaning isn't a problem either. Love my Zick Zick Zyliss and highly recommend!
