Stellar readings of the Bach cello suites
Excellent readings of the Bach cello suites in realistic sound. Zooms to the top of the pile for me.

intense and emotive
For its age and the methods of recording, a bit of a wonder. Marred only by the sound of scratching on the original record on one part. Very intense rendition of the cello suites though.

the best version of suites for sollo cello
Cello is my favourite instrument and I especially like this wonderful piece by Bach.I am not an expert or a musician but, after listening to seven or eight different versions ofthe "Suites for Solo Cello", I think this one is the best in terms of quality of sound and beautyof performance. I still need to check a new Pablo Casals cd recently released by ZYX.Artists such as Torleif Thedeen are genuine artists whose contribution to music is more importantthan the contribution of more celebrated cellists who are more in the limelight just because they are media savvy.

One of the classics
This is simply one of the great recordings. If you are at all about this music, you'll be transported. Never mind the limitations of the sound, or the technical imperfections - no-one ever got closer to the truth in this than Casals.Wonderful!
