Informative - maybe slightly outdated
I bought this book when I was about to produce my first show. I got a few books about theatre how-to's and have always found the Crowood Press Practical Guides very useful. This book is easy too read, offers enough detail without being too detailed and is most certainly written with practicality in mind. It most certainly gave me the tools (and by doing so the confidence) of producing my first show successfuly!!Although the principles of Production Management do not change much over time, this book feels a little bit outdated. The content is very much appicable to now, but the lay-out of this book feels like it hasn't changed much since the 80's - that shouldn't hold you back though! Also something to keep in mind when buying books about theatre subjects is that language and practices can differ slightly between the US and the UK - make sure you buy a book aimed at the right country!

I have found this book brilliant and insightful and it remains relevant today
I have found this book brilliant and insightful and it remains relevant today.A very UK based description and layout of the role of a production manager.I bought this book after moving to the UK to gain more understanding of the differences in the process between Australia and not only was it insightful into the mechanics of the UK industry, I took away a few extra tools and tricks applicable to Production Managers around the world.Would recommend to PM's of any level, a great introduction to the role but also a resource that proves you never stop learning - especially in the theatre and arts industries.

Reccommended easy to use guide
This guide is well written, with photocopiable templates and contains all the practical essentials that you would need to know and consider before and when getting a production up and running. It is one of the best books of its kind by far.
