The Ballad Of Lefty Brown [DVD]

I hadn't heard of this film before,it was recommended to me by Amazon via email. I'm so glad that I ordered it as it is a great film to sit back and enjoy. Would recommend to anyone who likes western twist films. Very enjoyable 5 ***** for me.

Nice narrative arc

Unfortunately I bought this for someone who already had it, however he told me it is a good film and he had previously enjoyed it!

I think this movie might depend on your mood. If you want action, this runs somewhat dry.There are some good gunfights. However this movie feels more about characters holding themselves together, when the going gets tough.I wasn't bored, and I was not sure what to expect. I put it on and watched straight through.

Something different. I enjoyed this. Pullman turns in a very watchable performance playing a coward with guts - not an easy paradox to pull off. The gun-play is mostly clumsy and fumbled and all the more believable because of it - so if you're looking for super-cool shootouts with guys doing impossible things with comparatively primitive weapons then this isn't for you. But if you're looking for something a little more human about a less-than-heroic figure just about stumbling beyond his own limitations in order to get the job done then this most definitely is for you. I note that some reviewers have said (in terms) that Lefty Brown isn't a very well defined character but, with all due respect, I'd refute that. Aside from the fairly subtle snippets of back-story that we glean from the dialogue, Pullman's mumbling, often shifty-eyed delivery portrays a man who is constantly looking both backwards and inwards and finding only disappointment in himself in either direction. And yet for all of that he's obviously got a history of getting through some scrapes and here he is; still standing, limp and all. There's a world of character in that combination. It's probably pretty much how most of us are to some degree or another when we reach a certain age which is why I'd suggest that viewers with a few more years under their belts might be the most appreciative of this film's undeniable charm.

Monotonous, slow, dull, boring, tedious rubbish, if you are looking to be bored to death and watch something that is so slow you forget what it's about while you're still watching it, then this is the film for you.For 2 days i tried to get through this until i eventually gave up as it just didn't get going at all, in fact i actually think it got so slow that it started going backwards, I've seen tortoise move faster.They should issue everyone watching this a pillow and neck brace...you'll need it so's you don't bang your head or twist your neck when you doze off.

This is not a bad film but there is a much better one trying to get out. It focuses on Lefty Brown (Bill Pullman), the loyal sidekick to would-be senator Edward Johnson (played by Peter Fonda in his last screen role) who is murdered by his side. Lefty rides out to find the killers and avenge his friend's murder and uncovers there is more to this than meets the eye.This is a rather slow western which is not a bad thing, but it is slow in the wrong places. It spends a lot of time setting up the plot and then rushes to the end with a rather farcical gunfight and all the townsfolk suddenly backing down after wanting to kill Lefty minutes earlier. The killer is ruthless and calculating until he allows himself to be captured by Lefty and there are rather too many holes in the plot for my liking.Bill Pullman is good as Lefty but not totally convincing however Peter Fonda is impressive for the short time he is in the film. This is not a bad film, just a rather predictable one which could have been so much better.

Acquistato per un regalo ad un parente,appassionato di film western, che ha gradito molto. Avendolo visionato insieme posso dare il mio giudizio. Anche se i western moderni non sono ai livelli di quelli passati non è il caso de "La Ballata di Lefty Brown", trama godevole, recitazione ottima e fotografia stupenda. In questo film i paesaggi sono davvero mozzafiato e, come già detto in precedenza, la fotografia è spettacolare poiché mette in risalto la vastità e la bellezza dei luoghi. Colonna sonora di buon livello, l'unica pecca è la mancanza del doppiaggio e dei sottotitoli in italiano che potrebbe essere un disvantaggio per le persone senza una buona padronanza della lingua inglese. I sottotitoli in lingua originale sono comprensibili e seguono fedelmente il parlato.
