Environment Friendly, Easy to Setup, and Signifcantly Better than a DIY.
Vego garden 17" Tall 9 in 1 Novel Metal Raised Garden Bed Kits Modular Planter Beds with 2 in 1 Wrench & Magnetic Plant Tags for Vegetables Flowers, Olive GreenLast year, I purchased and reviewed the 17" Tall 10 in 1 Modular Raised Garden Beds Kit. That kit is now called Classic; and has been exceptional. Assembly was a breeze and it’ll last for years to come. If you are interested in all the costs of DIY versus Vego, the review I posted for that kit contains costs. The result, you’ll get a lot more bang for your buck purchasing a Vego Garden Bed over doing your own build. So let’s talk about The Vego garden 17" Tall 9 in 1 Novel Metal Raised Garden Bed. This is their 2024 refreshed version, labeled as Novel. While there are some subtle differences, the DIY versus Vego debate remains the same. You’ll still get more bang for your buck going with Vego.Let’s talk about some basic differences between the Classic and the Novel.PANEL MATERIALWhile both use the same materials, the Novel panels use 1” less material (18”) than the Classic (19”). The removal of two ribs creates the flat face on the Novel. While aesthetically pleasing, the Classic panels will be stiffer. Given the performance difference will be minimal, If you like the design of the Novel panels, go for it.HARDWAREAnother interesting item here is the number of bolts necessary to assemble the Novel versus the Classic. With the redesign of the panels, there is one less bolt per connection. The Novel requires five bolts, while the Classic requires six. It’s just a subtle difference, but worth pointing out.A couple more notes here. - The bolts on the Novel are certainly a simpler design. There is a flanged nut that threads on to the bolt. The Classic has a non-flanged nut, washer, and bolt.- In addition, the Novel assembly tool has a plastic handle with a removable socket that can attach to a cordless drill. The Classic is 100% manual unless you have sockets to attach to your drill.OTHER NOTES:- The Novel includes some magnet tags you can write on. I’m not sure how they’ll be if I’m using an Expo marker when it rains. I’ll likely continue to use basic plant tags.- The Novel keeps the rubber cord that runs along the top of the garden. While the metal is not sharp, it’s just simply safer. I’m glad it’s included.- Yay, the included sticker still exists. Display your farming skills proudly and stick it on your laptop. :-DECO FRIENDLINESSThe Novel is more environmentally friendly than the classic; yet, there are pros and cons here.- The walls of the Novel use less material; a good thing, but at a slight cost to stability.- There are fewer nuts and bolts on the Novel kit; yet, a washer in front of a nut can prevent damaging a surface when tightened.- The bags and instructions are all compostable; a great feature.SUMMARYThis is going to depend on your point of view.- The Novel uses fewer materials overall, so it’s definitely more environmentally friendly. Conversely, you might feel that it should also be cheaper and could argue stability.- The Classic feels more stable because of the extra wall ribs and hardware. Compared to the Novel, it will not be as environmentally friendly as it requires more material.FINAL RATING: 5 starsSimply put, it’s going to come down to a personal point of view. Whether you purchase the Classic or the Novel, you’re getting a great product from a great company. Plus, you get the bonus of fielding a bumper crop at harvest. Get the color you want and the style you want. You’ll enjoy it either way.REMINDER: Remove the plastic that protects that panels!

One of Amazon's Best Products!
This is now my 3rd Vego Raised Garden Bed kit. I purchased my first set in September of 2021. I liked it so much I purchased a second kit in March of 2022. These kits are the absolute best raised garden bed kit I’ve ever used and is why I keep re-purchasing them. In the pictures you’ll see the kits I’ve owned. They still look brand new including the bolts. I find no rust anywhere. In case you can’t read my previous reviews, here’s some things to note.First off the box is a bit heavy at 30lbs. Once you open the box you understand why. These are quality metal panels. They are also sharp and I recommend wearing gloves during assembly.. They put a plastic film on both sides of all panels to keep from getting scratched so you need to remove the film from both sides. It will take some time to remove but oddly kind of satisfying. Once all film is removed, the rest of assembly is deciding on the design and inserting bolts. Two things to note during assembly.First: thing to note on the bolts. Make sure you the cap nuts on the top 2 levels of bolts instead of the regular nuts. The reason for this is you’ll probably have your hand in the dirt and the cap nuts will keep you from getting scratched.Second: I recommend not tightening all the bolts until you have everything connected.Third: They include vinyl safety edging for the top. I highly recommend you use this as the edge is sharp. The safety edge goes on easy and they include a bit more than enough even for the largest size. From start to finish it took me about 30 minutes. Once complete it felt sturdy and held the soil I put in very well. One nice upgrade to this kit is they now include two magnetic flower tags which I'll make use of.PROS:1. Very good quality metal panels and stainless steel fasteners. I look for this to last more than 1 year.2. You can configure the garden bed in 9 different ways.3. I like the deeper bed. It's higher off the ground making it easier and offers more room for roots.4. Super easy to setup.5. Down the road you can purchase additional kits and add panels to your existing setup.CONS:I’ve had these for almost 4 years now and honestly I cannot think of a con. Vego really put some thought into making these.Out of all the items I’ve purchased on Amazon, the Vego kits are the top 10 of best quality and value you get. I highly recommend and wouldn’t be surprised if I purchase additional kits in the future.

Very nice looking planter
The green color looks really nice in my backyard. Perfect size for the space along the fence. Fits 4 large tomatoes and keeps the yard organized clean look. Like that it comes with name tag magnets. The assembly was easy enough. Very happy with the new planter.

Good quality and thoughtfully designed
They look well made they're very solid I love the added touch of the writable tags on the side as well as the capping on the outside to protect your hands from the edges. The top two bolts are round on the inside so if you're digging around in the dirt you're not going to catch yourself on a sharper bolt. Very thoughtfully designed and good quality

Better Than I Expected!
Very nice raised garden bed. Made of steel so it’s sturdy and the overall fit and finish is quite good. Easy to assemble but a bit tedious as there are lots of screws and nuts. You will want to use a power screwdriver to tighten things up after you do a loose assembly. Also you have to peel the protective plastic off both sides of each piece. Not difficult but again a bit tedious. It’s quite large and you can choose from several configurations depending on your space. This will be a great addition to our container garden which we will be planting very shortly. You can use this for any vegetable or a nice flower garden.I planted seed potatoes shortly before I got this but now looking at this it would have been perfect for that. It’s going to take a lot of dirt to fill this. I wish there had been a bottom of some sort to keep it from sitting directly on the ground. I plan on building some sort of stand for it. At the price point it is a good value and is priced comparable to other garden beds.
