Lord Edgware Dies

A simple murder made complicated - genius
As the title suggests, Lord Edgware dies. Or, more accurately, is murdered, although no guns were used. So why there’s a revolver shown on the cover of my version of the book,I have no idea.Anyway, Lord Edgware is not a popular man and many people have good reason to want him dead. Among them, his estranged wife tells everybody she wants to kill her husband so it should be pretty straightforward when she’s seen briefly visiting him the night before he’s discovered lifeless in his library. The problem for Poirot is Lady Edgware was also seen at a dinner party in another part of London at exactly the same time. So, when an actress who does very good impressions of Lady Edgware is also found dead after taking an overdose of sleeping tablets, Inspector Japp immediately jumps to the conclusion that she’s the murderer and took her own life while suffering from remorse.Case closed then? Not so.Poirot thinks it’s more complicated than that, and despite finding no evidence to support his belief, he’s right. Or is he?So, who really visited Lord Edgware that night? Did the actress commit suicide or is someone hiding their tracks? And who murdered the third victim? Donald Ross was at the same party as Lady Edgware but was murdered while he was on the phone about to give Poirot the vital piece of evidence he needed to solve the case.I’ve read Lord Edgware Dies several times and still struggle to keep up with all the twists and misdirections of what turns out to be a very straightforward murder. Only Agatha could make something so simple seem so complicated. Genius.

Great story, awful Kindle presentation
I knew I would enjoy this Poirot story - big AC fan, but especially of Miss Marple. HOWEVER, I have not experenced Kindle as bad as this is - sentences and paragraphs broken up at the wrong place, page numbers scattered through the book and chapter timings etc for the whole book only.

Excellent book, poor transcription to kindle
Typically good Poirot story. But this transcription to kindle is very poor. Now chapters, random number in text (I suspect from source book). Spend the extra money and get one of the other versions to avoid very poor formatting etc.

Condition as described, very happy!
I bought a used copy of this bookand was initially rather wary in doing so. However, the book was received in the condition described and very promptly, too! More than happy with my purchase. Happy reading everyone!

Formatting makes it difficult to read on Kindle
I really enjoyed the book - Hercule Poirot is my favourite fictional character and I am enjoying reading some new Agatha Christie books. However, the way this was formatted made it difficult and sometimes annoying to read on my Kindle. I tried to reformat the layout but couldn't change it. Blank pages in the middle of chapters, text only on the top half of some pages and other small niggles all added to the irritation. However, putting all that aside, I enjoyed the novel!

If its by Agatha Christie you can't go wrong
Murders, Suspense and clever plots. A really good read that you go back to again and again.

Not a genuine version?
Not sure that this is a genuine version. Stray numbers occur in the middle of the text, and in the middle of sentences (see photo). Layout of text is very irregular.

Who Killed The Lord....?
Agatha Christie in true traditional, classic form here in Lord Edgware Dies. Lord Edgware is a rather unpleasant man all round. He has a beautiful wife, who despairs of him. Unfortunately, for the Lord, someone wants him out of the picture and that someone swiftly and cleanly actions that thought. Who killed Lord Edgware? The obvious suspect is his beautiful wife - but she was at a party with many witnesses at the time of the murder. Although, M. Poirot also witnessed her saying that she wanted her husband dead. More confounding again is that Lord Edgware had recently granted his wife a divorce, negating her need to dispose of him! Feeling rather like a stooge, M. Poirot is all the more determined to solve the mystery. With all the ingredients of a true classic murder mystery, this is an engrossing read. Packed with red herrings and clever misdirection, the reader is pulled from pillar to post. Well written and consuming.(The BBC full cast audio dramatisation of this novel is a superb listen too). Fans of Agatha Christie (or anyone who enjoys a traditional murder mystery) will not be disappointed.
