An extremely informative helpful book
I read this book on recommendation to help in my role on an Independent Monitoring Board. (These Boards monitor the day-to-day life of prisoners and try to ensure they are treated fairly and with dignity in custody) I found it informative, easy to read and it gave me a much better understanding of what is required of a prison officer.Alison Liebling is highly knowledgeable. She tackles subjects such as the qualities required of an officer, the use of discretion, the Prison Officers Association and how life in prison has changed over the recent past.I would recommend this book for other IMBs as well as criminology students. I's full of useful information as well as being thought provoking.

Excellent Book
Fantastic book very interesting specially for those who may be considering or are starting a career as a prison officer this book is invaluable. Gives an indepth and sometimes amusing look into the real world of a prison with lots of stories from real officers and cons.
