Beginner's Book for the Flute - Part One | Flute Learning Book for Beginners | Flute Sheet Music Book with Illustrations for Correct Posture & Fingerings | Trevor Wye Flute Method : Wye, Trevor: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: The best flute book for beginners - Well structured tutor book with clear explanations on all aspects of flute playing. Nice tunes that students enjoy playing, challenging in some way but not too difficult, perfect to keep you engaged. What I really love about this book is the fact that it not only uses the most popular keys like most beginner books. Be prepared to all sorts of major and minor keys. This method really improved my sight-reading and also my understanding of the different keys. Suitable for complete beginners and gives a deep knowledge of the basic music theory aswell, more detailed than most flute books of the same level. My copy arrived with a cd enclosed that contained 42 of the tunes from the book, first played by a flutist, then followed by a backing for the student to play. This is another highlight for me, what I did, I played the music from the sheet music by myself first, then listened to the flute player on the recording if I got all notes, etc right. Then I practiced with the backing until I was happy with it. I can highly recommend this book to all beginners and restarters. I would also suggest to download a metronome app to your mobile for the other pieces that are not included on the cd if you learn to play the flute without a live tutor. By the end of this book all aspects of my flute playing improved and now I'm on book 2. Review: hold it are good. Music theory is introduced really gradually - This is a very progressive book. It doesn't have a DVD, but the explanations on the flute itself, How to assemble it, hold it are good. Music theory is introduced really gradually: i.e. a note like B is first introduced; it is shown written on the stave; it's then shown with the fingering which is well described. It starts speaking on tone and proposes to exercise this. (this is an exercise that James Galway takes an hour every day to perform the tone until the sound becomes beautiful). I have just bought volume 2 and the omnibus edition: Trevor Wye Practice Books for Flute: Omnibus Books 1 to 51 Jan 2001 by Trevor Wye Spiral-bound from desertcart, indeed. I intend to go very progressively, until my tone becomes really beautiful. Trevor wye concentrates on this very production of a beautiful tone. In book 1, there are lots of pieces for practice alredy, both for musicla theory and reading of it, and simply to practice the learned notes. It's a very inspiring tutor, no frills, just the underlining advice to progress at your own pace, without rushing, to really absorb completely how to play and eventually perform. I highly recommend the whole series of book practice by Trevor Wye. It's not expensive for the valuable teachings and advice you get.

A basic tutor for the flute
I'm not a learner but 30 years ago was quite competent on the flute. Now, at the age of 93, a relative gave me a flute and I'm trying to re-learn the instrument. I have no difficulty with reading music , being a competent clarinetist, but I find this tutor useful in regaining blowing and fingering techniques which seem to have deserted me over the years. It's a well printed and presented publication by the well-known Trevor Wye. I recommend it for young beginners of this instrument.

Excellent
I am an adult learner and am trying to teach myself from videos and books. I initially started off with a different beginner flute book and after a couple of weeks felt I was stuck, not being able to progress with my tone. I've only had this book for a few days but already I feel like my tone is improving on the lower register. This book is packed with lots of different music to practice with and they are enjoyable to learn. There are fingering charts for each new note to go along with the music. I am enjoying my flute again after feeling very frustrated. I'll be using the Trevor Wye books from now on as they are so comprehensive. I am picking up my flute several times a day now and actually look forward to practice!

Very good tutor book
I bought this to see if I could have a fair go at teaching myself to play flute since Clarinet lessons are already costing me enough money! It really is a very good book for an adult learner. It teaches the new notes, gives you a couple of 'practise' pieces of a few bars, then leads to a small tune and a couple of exercises and scale pieces etc. It really is a very good and natural progression and the CD helps to know if you're sounding anything like you ought to be.

This is an excellent book to use for beginning flute students. It has application for a vast level of student ability. I use this to teach both my beginners and also students who have been playing a couple of years. Wye teaches very beginning concepts such as how to hold the flute, make and sound, music notation and reading beginning rhythms. What's nice about this book is it covers basic techniques like finger exercises and scalework in an interesting way so that it can be used by more advanced students. The exercises are short and easy to complete between lessons insuring the student's do not get bored drilling the same lines for weeks. As a teacher, I highly recommend this book to other flute teachers and music educators.

I hadn't picked up a flute for 20 years and this book was great. Introduced all the notes in logical order with a fingering guide. Doesn't take you above high G. And includes scales and fingering exercises too. I found it much more readable than the Elementary Method which I got at the same time (but the fingering chart in that book is great!). The 2nd part is out of stock so I order another flute book and it wasn't as nearly as good. I think I'll have to search harder for part 2!

Comprehensive for a book. Probably with a teacher it would be sufficient. As I don't have a teacher, I supplement it with watching online tutorials for hands position and producing a sound. But the selection of pieces and exercises is good.

Ottimo libro per chi, come me, non sa nemmeno leggere la musica.
