Breathe in .. Breathe out, it's Good for you!
This is a Fun book!I bought this book in 2014 when I was very over-weight. and my stomack was ... well let's say, people saw my bulge before they saw me. Not good. After learning how to practise breathing deeply I began to ride a bicycle and focussed on breathing more fully and more or less, and "forgot" how I looked. 4 months after reading this book, I was shocked to learn that I had Lost 9 kilograms-apparently without trying too hard. Now I get it .. it is easy to say "well, riding that bike MUST have lost you all that fat"!Maybe. I hadn't changed my diet and all I did differently, was breathe in a way not of my usual way! That was then ..... 4 years ago. Now, I find myself in the unhappy position of having gained unwanted fat and again have a big belly! This time 'round, I'm drinking more water and breathing in a way similar to how I did so, 4 years ago. I'm re-finding my rhythm, breathing deeply, with more focus and drinking more water. It's Winter here now, Colder than 4 years ago and I'm getting to walk amidst the rain and the fog and breathing better! What I like about this book is, its written in a humorous way, light-hearted but jam-packed with helpful information. It is well set out in a more or less logical fashion and is a Fun Read! I already Know that breathing efficiently helps me to lose weight, I've done it before and will do so again. It's an easy 5 Star rating this book well deserves!

Just breathe!
I put this under the heading of things I wished I'd known three decades ago...i.e. that just breathing correctly could be such a powerful tool in achieving a healthy body. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I had put on quite a bit of weight and was not feeling healthy -- I had very low energy and also had begun to experience some unfounded anxiety. The typical diet and exercise program I had used most of my life to keep fit had become ineffective and I was becoming increasingly frustrated. I had read another of Pam Grout's books on a completely different topic when this book popped up on my Kindle as another book by Ms. Grout that I might be interested in. I read the reviews and read about Alan Finger and his yoga practice that is centered on breathing (and his own experience of fairly miraculous weight loss) and, although skeptical, I thought that it couldn't hurt to try these exercises. For the past three weeks I have incorporated the various breathing exercises into a daily practice. For the first two weeks, I only did the breathing and did not change my diet or exercise. For the past week, I also have incorporated a more alkaline diet. the result is that I have lost an average of half a pound per day, and after incorporating the alkaline diet for the past week, it is just under a pound a day. Better yet, I have found that the anxiety is lessening and that when I do have an occasional bout, that the breathing exercises help me alleviate that and bring me back into the moment. This holiday season was a good example --- I was able to host my large family of twelve and really enjoy it, whereas, in the past, it would have been a cause for great anxiety. Lastly, my energy is beginning to pick up again. The great thing is that I can practice the exercises anywhere, even in my car while driving.

A Lot Of Excercises
This is the second book I've read by Pam Grout and I found this particular book very interesting. Pam does a really good job of making you aware of how you actually breathe. I never thought about my breathing until I read this, now I can't stop thinking about it!I'm working through the exercises, and there are lots of them, that's why I gave 4 stars. I'm a little overwhelmed by all the extra "Olives" towards the end of the book and not sure exactly how many of these exercises I should be doing on a daily basis. There are so many different breathing exercises that you could spend all day doing each and every one. I kind of wish the exercises were separated by chapter, as in, The Weight Loss Chapter, The Stress Reduction Chapter, The Anti-Anxiety Chapter, etc. I will work on doing the breathing techniques that feel the most comfortable first and then move onto some of the others. All in all this is a very informative book and after reading this, you may want to do more research about this subject. Breathing correctly is not only good for weight loss, but a whole host of medical issues. As Pam says, breathing is free, and if it works as well as she claims, this will be my last weight loss program, ever!

Let's see if this works! My experiment of one...me!
Read it despite it being a bit repetitive since the message is so simple. I figured the author needed filler material so she repeated the message over and over. The accompanying stories are worth the read. I think this will be a life changing book for me! I'm going to give deep breathing a shot. Maybe it's the missing link! Here it is in a nutshell: 70% of the waste we produce must expelled through our lungs...that's more than pee and poo put together! I never knew this!If we don't completely fill our lungs with air we cannot get the oxygen we need to maintain a high metabolism...we need oxygen to keep our energy high. When we deep breathe we give our bodies the oxygen needed to make lots energy and expel the toxins it produces in doing so. When we shallow breathe we force our bodies into slow mode. We cannot expel all the toxins produced so our bodies, rather than storing the toxins in our vital organs, put them into fat cells. We accommodate the extra toxins by producing more fat cells as needed! When you deep breathe you body will change over to a high metabolic mode! I'm really hoping this is the case. I've set alarms throughout the day to remind me to DEEP BREATHE! Inhale to a count of 4, hold to a count of 4, exhale to a count of 4. Do ten repetitions at least 3 times a day. The book does provide a quite a few more breathing exercises than what I wrote down here.

To read one of Pam's books is to read all of her books...
Pam Grout is a wonderful writer. Regardless, the subject, informative, beautiful, enjoyable, humorous, writing. I fall in love with her every time I read a sentence, but I feel the same way about Tom Robbins. She's the real deal when it comes to communicating a subject.

Amazing book....Extremely powerful and Life changing
I love Pam Grout and her books. I have bought a few. Jumpstart your Metabolism is an amazing book. Learning to breath properly is one of the simplest yet life changing things to do. I have found that there is a huge connection with one's self that happens as we learn to breath and give our bodies and organs what they need. It is also true that you will lose any excess weight. Thank you so much Pam. Bless

Great Book. Old ideas presented in a new way
Pam Grout is a great author. I love the things she has to say, i love her delivery and more importantly, i love how her suggestions have impacted my life.Right from E squared, E cubed to Jumpstart You Metabolism, her books have surprised me in a pleasant, humorous and helpful way. This book is about making a small change, like proper breathing, can bring about a positive change in your body. Her 'Breathing Cocktails' give you an idea of different kind of exercises of breath that you can do. They are fun, easy and convenient.I haven't lost any weight due to this, but some positive changes that i have noticed :1. Improvement in appetite.2. No longer feeling stuffed after any meal.3. Calmness
