I have read a lot of the other reviews and yes it is more porous and not as smooth as other foams or XPS insulation … but the open pores and the ease of using a craft knife and sculpting tools, is wonderful for creating the texture of rocks/stones/boulders for what I am using. I don’t find it breaks off while trying to cut or shape it. You need to use stronger tools but it can still be carved well. gauche paint definitely didn’t adhere to it but Acrylic works just fine. You may have to add some layers of paint to cover it all but if you sand it down first it’s even easier.

The foam is not XPS, it is not paintible, it is not 12" by 12" and it is frankly appalling that such blatant false advertising is allowed on Amazon. Would not buy again or recommend.

I’m doing some crafting and needed some xps foam. I bought this because it advertised it being xps, but it isn’t. Now I have to take extra steps to seal it for painting. Poor product description costing me time and money. Not happy at all

The Foam has not been cut uniformly in either depth or width.

I use these building terrain for miniatures. This is the same as the big 4' x 8' panels, but cut down to a manageable squares.

All the pieces were the proper size. Some had slight defects which I can work around as I bought this to make modular terrain. I used brick texture rollers on it and it held the textures well but it doesnt tell you the density and I think it's low, as the texture rollers more "cut" into it rather than impressing it.
