Review: Great book for the money - A nicely put together book. The physical construction is nice, and the font size and layout is very well done. For the money, it’s a great addition to the stacks. Topically, it’s well done…but honestly, Senaca’s writings get a little long winded when making a point. The material is a mix of deep reading and skimming…which isn’t the worst thing, but something to be aware of. Review: Seneca Rules - The other essays/writings included in the book are decent, they’re still classics from Seneca that are worth reading and familiarizing yourself with, but the absolute standout is definitely “On the Shortness of Life”, I consider it one of the greatest examples of pre-psychology, insight, self-knowledge, and philosophy that ever came out of either Rome or Greece. This is a simple, inexpensive, hardcover but the contents are very good and the introduction is worthy of the essays also. The editors and compilers know what they’re doing. I’d recommend this, it’s a solid book for not much cash and the title essay, “On the Shortness of Life,” is absolutely worth the price of entry. Every thinking, self-reflecting, and philosophical person needs to read it.
