Economics For Dummies, 3rd Edition (For Dummies (Business & Personal Finance)) [Flynn] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Economics For Dummies, 3rd Edition (For Dummies (Business & Personal Finance)) Review: Outstanding Book! - This book was very well written and captures the key areas of economics that everyone should know. The examples given brought clarity to each topic. Very well done! Review: I did not know anything prior and now I know a lot - Anyway, the main reason I wanted to read this book is because of the 3 main branches of politics, social issues, economic issues and foreign policy issues, economic issues has always been my weakest and I really wanted to get my foot in the door with economics. Like constantly criticizing Bernie Sanders for being “economically illiterate” doesn’t really hold a lot of water when you yourself don’t know how to calculate GDP. Now I am not actually sure how to accurately critique a book like this and I guess I have no choice but to give it a 10/10. Mainly because I think it did its job. I knew hardly anything about economics prior to starting this book and now I know way more than when the year started. So yeah, it taught me a lot about basic economics concepts.

I did not know anything prior and now I know a lot
Anyway, the main reason I wanted to read this book is because of the 3 main branches of politics, social issues, economic issues and foreign policy issues, economic issues has always been my weakest and I really wanted to get my foot in the door with economics. Passable overview, quite eclectic
This is about the standard that I expected to get from a 4D book. In fact I wanted to get an overview of conventional economical theories including any contradictions and general poor rigor that may be included. I reduced the star mainly, because some of the theories are patently fantastic, yet presented as uncontroversial - notably the assumptions of "competitive free market". This is like like the physicist's ideal gas, only with 4-6 unrealistic assumptions instead of one, and is treated not as a grossly simplified model, but a suppsedly achievable goal. Worse yet supose that you evaluated all deviations from ideal gas properties as "failures", not of your dumb theory, but of the real world market.

Great Primer on Economics
I found this book after googling "best intro to economics book" or some such thing. I ordered a copy of the 2nd edition and, sure enough, it was a fantastic overview of introductory micro and macro economic concepts. I passed my intro to micro and intro to macro classes easily after having read it. I assume the 3rd edition is just as good, but I haven't looked at it yet. Enjoy!

Easy reading
This book was easier to understand than the Kaplan book for the Chartered Financial Analyst test.

Author Bias
Anyone who has spent any time reading about the two major economic philosophies, Keynes vs Hayek, will notice that this author shows his bias. This author is a disciple of the Hayek/Friedman school. He spends more time, and pages, to discussing microeconomics and money supply theory than he does to macroeconomics and aggregate demand theory of Keynes. He said that Keynes’ model has its’ critics but never said that about the monetary model, I.e. Milton Friedman! Since Keynes believed in government intervention into the economy during economic downturns the author makes snide remarks about government intervention into the free market. Ok book for newbies but just know this author is not unbiased as to his preferred economic philosophy.

Economics the way it should be taught!
So I aced my Economics test because of this. Everything was clear, concise, and it made you want to learn more.

Great book....well....for dummies I guess *rolls head in shame* on a serious note, it explains things well in simple English with good examples. Helps grasp concepts on how society and economics are linked in the modern world.

This book contains complex concepts explained in simple, everyday English. I enjoyed reading it even if it took me longer than expected.
