VOC Compliant Solvent-Based Water Repellent, 1 Gallon

There was an issue with the package upon delivery and they promptly rectified the situation. To be fair, this isn’t the only item I’ve experienced with delivery issues lately. And I thank chimney saver for clear communication and good service.I will comment on the quality after the winter if evidence presents itself, suggesting an ineffective product on our chimney. Otherwise, it’s good.

So far, so good. In March we had our chimney cleaned by a professional chimney sweep. She noticed there was mold growing in the fireplace, so she cleaned & treated it. She suggested waterproofing the outside of the fireplace & chimney. I purchased this, cleaned the outside bricks & applied this at the end of April. Since then, we have had a lot of rain here in Eastern PA. I have noticed there hasn’t been lime seeping through the bricks inside nor has any mold regrown. Will this last 5 years, I guess we’ll have to wait & see. For now, we are happy w/the product & results.

It really sealed out the water, and prevented the growth of moss on the chimney.

This was a product highly recommended by the chimney sweeps I spoke to and I had high hopes for it. I applied it on a previously treated brick chimney on a cool July morning (70's). The previous product (do not recall the name but it was not Chimney Saver) worked great for 5 years. Since the chimney had been treated once, I decided to use this solvent-based water repellent. It had not rained for at least one week prior. I used low pressure garden spray bottle and completely saturated the brick and mortar surfaces (3 coats at least). I used a paint brush to break up the surface tension after the first coat. Almost three months later, my chimney still takes in water with virtually no delay. After one rain event, I went up to check the condition only to find all of the mortar joints completely saturated and no improvement in the chimney blocking water intrusion. The water sips into the attic area below the flashing (yes, the flashing is in good condition). A product this expensive should perform better. Maybe it worked on other cases but it didn't work for me. I am not going to completely dismiss this water repellent as so many chimney sweeps recommended it. However, I would almost suggest trying other (cheaper?) products first before trying this.

Did what the directions said it would do and waterproofed the brick and mortar on the exterior of my chimney. Very satisfied with my purchase.

It's not possible to rate the product over a short time. I applied it to my chimney as directed. But it will take a season, at least, to see if it makes a difference. Having said that, it would seem that the price is high for 1 gallon of the product.

My chimney cap leaked. I used ChimneySaver. Now my chimney cap doesn’t leak.
