This instant sambar mix is quite tasty! The ingredients come in a vacuum-sealed bag, and I like that there are no additives or preservatives--just a dried blend of dal, onions, chiles, tomato, pumpkin, and spices. The product is in powder form with chunks of the veggies and spices which, reconstituted with hot water, gives the mix some texture akin to a freshmade dal. I thought the flavor was great--it has a nice zing of spicy heat without being overpowering. Still, you can tell that this is a dry mix, and my husand was not a fan of the texture--even reconstituted, it has a bit of a powdery feel to it. Nevertheless, this is a healthy and wholesome shelf-stable pantry item that is good for a quick meal whether at home or camping out. Recommended.
