Q: Can i connect this from home phone to usb port on modem so i can power up the phone ?

Short Answer is No, sorry, this cable is designed to convert USB data into the RS232 serial format. Ages ago PCs used to come with a 9 pin connector usually called 'Com 1' or similar that used the RS232 serial data format. This cable is a way of getting you a 'Com 1' connection from a USB port - it just happens to use the RJ45 style of connector instead.

Q: Yes I am trying to connect Cisco 3550 switch to my laptop...is there a work around for this, do I need to get a usb to serial connector?

If you are using putty and going from usb to control port on the switch this cable is fine. But ensure you are selecting the correct com port in putty and have the drive download for the cable if required.

Q: We're not able to get this cable to work with Windows 10 Ent. Where can we find the drivers?

No. This is a console cable and not a cable that transfers data in the way you think.
