The basics and beyond.
If there are a few drumming books you must have, this is certainly one of them. Learn it cover to cover and there is still more than you realize.

Fantastic book!
What a great book. I'm actually proficient on other instruments and have been learning drums. Since I have some ability already this book allowed me to quickly gain an understanding on so many beat varieties, fills, coloration/voicing. Really amazing book and I enjoy just learning and practicing all of the patterns.

Good book for beginning drummers
I like this book because it has notations for many different grooves (blues, rock, country and pop). Along with the CD that comes with it, it is very easy to follow. Each track is indicated on the book and the CD tells you which pattern will be playing on the next track. It's nice that the CD has play-along songs with and without drums. I recommend this book and another one by Rod Morgenstein called Drum Set Warm-Ups.

It's a great book! I remember when Rod introduced this book at PASIC years ago! I have used it for many years. I think it's a great book not only for beginners/intermediate players, but also advanced players. The reason I say that is you can start to apply linear concepts, displacement, and odd times with all the patterns in the book if you know what you are doing. You just have to use your imagination. Taking a lesson from Rod himself helped me get how to do that with not only this book but others as well. Even if you don't know how to do all that just yet it's still a great place to start a young player. It's a fantastic book by a superb drummer and educator!

My instructor recommended the Drumset Musician as part of my repertoire
I'm currently taking drum lessons as a college elective. My instructor recommended the Drumset Musician as part of my repertoire, and it's a really great place to start when learning drums. It gives you a great overview of the drumset itself, and then it goes into basic drum patterns that build on as you go. You learn a variety of styles that are useful when jamming out on your own time. I really like it and would recommend it for beginners and experts alike.

Awesome For Beginners!
My lesson teacher told me to order this book for the semester.I have never played drumset before and this is a great book! There are pages that teach you where the snare, bass, cymbals, etc. go on the music staff.I haven't read all the way through if it teaches rhythms, because I have that prior knowledge, but it's easy to google music theory.Have fun and good luck!

Drum teacher gives it a yes.
I am a drum teacher and this book is one of the ones I use with my students. This is one of the best I have come across for what i am using it for.I like the clean look of the measure lines and musical notes. Comfortable to read and see from a short distance.I like the layout of each section. The only thing I wish that could be different is I wish there were more recorded examples on the CD. There are a few, but I wish there was more. However, I recommend this book if you have a teacher to help you and play each of the examples with you.I like that it does have some songs with drum tab.

Make sure you know what you're getting
This is a great book, so why the three stars? It is not a great "Teach yourself" book. Some may say it doesn't call itself that. But, that was the overall impression I got from what information I could find. I would recommend this book, but you should know what you're getting. It is a great encyclopaedia of drum beat patterns. The book is divided in three section, 8th note, 16th note and triplet. Each section is divided into lists of beats, variations and fills. The end of each section has two play-along tracks.I think one of the sections has something like 72 basic patterns before you get on to the variations and fills, if you try and work through these as a beginner, I think you'll be selling your drum kit before long out of boredom! I would recommend doing these patterns as exercises, but for the beginner I would recommend something like "Introducing Drum Kit, Trinity Guildhall" by G Double. That book work well to give you some simple exercises then a play along and so on to develop your skills.

Great book for beginners
I have a fetish for drum books and despite having a book that already fills a similar role to this in my teaching practice, I was excited to look through this. It's a very nicely written book which covers a broad range of skills that can help any beginning drummer develop their fundamental vocabulary and start to acquire an understanding of the way music is structured. It includes blues, rock and pop related grooves, lots of variations for snare and bass and some great charts with playalong tracks. You really can't go wrong using this book to develop your drumming, particularly if you're a beginner. Highly recommended.

A must buy book for learning drums.
The best drum tuition book I've brought. In fact I think its the best musical instrument tuition book I own. Including Guitar and bass books. Some may find it a little dry but I love the efficiency and layout of the book. There's certainly enough content here to keep you busy for a long, long time.
