Fantastic! You choose how high to raise yourself between fully flat to about 45 degrees in just a few seconds.No uncomfortable metal bars sticking into you, or stopping you being able to sleep with your hand under the pillow.It is incredibly noisy but only while inflating. Any other time it is completely silent so your sleep won't be distributed by a constantly running motor or anything like that.The air pump plugs into 3 pin socket and stays at side of bed. It is about 12"long by probably 8"high. The pip, resembling a clear hosepipe then fixes into this with a twist and is already attached to the inflatable pillow.The first one arrived with a faulty hose but I contacted the company who contacted the manufacturers and another one was delivered within days.I can't comment on how it works if you need it inflated overnight because I only use it to help me sit up in bed first thing in the morning when I struggle the most. But it does help me t get from a fairly flat sleeping position to a sitting position.The double on a double bed does go over both sides of the bed so if there are two of you it will lift you both at the same time, there is no option for independent lifting with the double. However, if there is only 1 of you with the double you do have to sit in the middle of the bed otherwise the empty side inflates really fast. This leaves the side where someone is sitting hardly inflated and I daren't carry on inflating it in case it burst. You could use a single in a double bed if only 1 of you needs assistance, or 2 singles if you both want to move independent of each other but bear in mind you would need a split mattress or 2 singles on a double bed for that to work.I was very nervous about buying this in case it burst or got punctured but I'm glad I did.Would recommend product and the company.

My mother is unable to lay flat in bed as she has severely congested lungs. Up to now she's been slumped on a pile of pillows that I've hated for years. This amazing product has solved all of my complaints, and all of hers. No more back pain, no more struggling to get out of the pillows, no more discomfort and best of all, she can now sit up and read or mess with her tablet, and then lower it to a more comfortable position for sleeping. The pump is rather noisy and sounds somewhat like a vacuum cleaner, but it is extremely efficient and inflates the large pad very quickly. Air release is steady with no jerking or sticking. It had no problem lifting my mother and the mattress to where she's comfortable sleeping, and as she is now laying on the mattress rather than propped up on pillows, there's no lower back strain or discomfort on her glutes. I had no idea things like this were available until a casual browse here looking for a unit to help her get out of bed and both of us rather wish we'd found this years ago. Funny how Occupational Therapy and Age Concern didn't come up with this idea, no, rather than just wanted to put an inflatable pillow under her which would have been just as bad as the pillows she already had.If you have problems breathing at night, or need to be in a raised position to sleep, this will answer your need. It is very reasonably priced, does not deflate during use, pumps up quickly and is infinitely adjustable. Get one, you'll sleep so much better.

Bought this for my elderly Father, who had been in hospital for 5 weeks. After coming home he found that he was suffering from dizziness; through lying down flat on his bed at home, Looked into devices available to raise his sleeping position but prices seemed to start at £500 upwards, then along came Mattress Genie........BRILLIANT.and at a fraction of the cost of a mechanical device.

Does what it claims to do though I might have liked a bit more lift. In fairness having a trapped nerve in one leg at the moment it is hard for me to move and get comfortable in any position.

Well this is the first time I have been able to use my new bed it has an orthopedic mattress which is very heavy so I was doubtful that this product would work I am so pleased as iv never had a goodnights sleep for years iv been sleeping on the sofa which over years of use I slept with 8 pillows underneath me plus trying to keep my head up as I cant lay flat so having 5 crumbling discs and sciatica so to wake up pain free is AMAZING I Feel GREAT alot cheaper than an orthopaedic Bed which are just so expensive I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE NEEDING AN ORTHOPEDIC BED GREAT BARGAIN I WOULD GIVE IT 10 TEN STARS.

Great gadget - got it for my Mum, she has osteoarthritis in her hips and was having pain at night lying flat in bed & wasn't sleeping. Would have been a big upheaval & expense changing her bed so this was a lot simpler. She had to try a few different heights before she found the right one - when it is fully inflated it is a bit high - she kept sliding to the bottom of the bed but she has found just the right level now. It is a bit noisy when it is being inflated - sounds like a loud hoover! but that doesnt matter as with it she is now sleeping much better. I would reccomend this product.

I got it since I have reflux disease and need it inflated just enough to raise up my head and trunk but it very noisy to inflate, slow to deflate, very wobbly if not inflated to it's maximum which you never use to sit up.

Have slept great since getting this and as I don't have to keep waking up in the night to take pain killers, I'm actually getting 8-9hours sleep now. Before I was sleeping 4-5 hours. So I'm completely satisfied with my mattress genie. Thank you so much x
